How to Add Royal Road Stories to calibre
You can add a Royal Road fiction to calibre by downloading it as an EPUB with WP Downloader and importing the file into your library. Both tools are free, and you do not need a Royal Road account.
What you need
WP Downloader is a web tool, so you do not need to install anything for the download. You need:
- The Royal Road fiction page
- WP Downloader
- calibre on a Windows, macOS, or Linux computer
- An e-reader and USB cable if you plan to transfer the book to a device
A Royal Road fiction link usually looks like this:

Download the Royal Road story with WP Downloader
Open the Royal Road downloader and paste the fiction link into the box. WP Downloader detects that the link is from Royal Road.
Choose EPUB as the output format. EPUB is free for everyone, and you can choose whether to include the story’s images.
PDF is also available with a free Discord sign-in. EPUB is a useful starting format for calibre because you can add it to your library, edit its metadata and cover, or convert it to another format.

Add the EPUB to your calibre library
Open calibre and select Add books. Find the downloaded EPUB and add it to your library.
The fiction appears as one book, with all its chapters in the same EPUB. You do not need to import the chapters separately.
You can read the book in calibre’s e-book viewer. The viewer also has a Read aloud feature.
Edit the book’s details and cover
Select the story in calibre and open its metadata editor. You can change details such as the title and author or replace the cover.
These edits affect the copy in your calibre library. They do not change the fiction on Royal Road.
Convert the story for your device
If your device or reading app supports EPUB, you can keep the original format. calibre can also convert the EPUB to formats such as AZW3, MOBI, or PDF.
WP Downloader itself produces EPUB or PDF. It does not produce MOBI, AZW3, or TXT. To get a MOBI or AZW3 file, download the EPUB and convert it with calibre.
Select the story in calibre, choose the conversion option, and pick the format you need.
Send the story to a connected e-reader
Connect your e-reader to the computer with a USB cable. Select the story in calibre and use the option to send it to the connected device.
You can transfer the EPUB or a version that you converted in calibre.

Manage stories that receive new chapters
WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you already have. To get the latest chapters, return to the Royal Road downloader, paste the fiction link again, and download the whole fiction as a new file.
