How to Save Backup Copies of Ad Astra Stories

Authors and archive sites can edit, unpublish, or delete stories. If you expect to reread an Ad Astra work, WP Downloader can save a personal EPUB or PDF copy while the story is available to you.

Download the Ad Astra story

WP Downloader is a free web tool, with nothing to install. For Ad Astra, it downloads the whole story rather than individual chapters or lists.

1. Open the Ad Astra downloader.
2. Copy the story URL from adastrafanfic.com. It should look like this:

3. Paste the URL into WP Downloader.
4. Choose whether to include the story’s images.
5. Download the story as an EPUB. This format is free for everyone.
6. To download a PDF, sign in with Discord for free and select PDF.

You can also paste the link into the box on the WP Downloader home page. WPD will recognize it as an Ad Astra story.

You do not need to sign in to Ad Astra for public stories. For a members-only story, signing in with your Ad Astra account lets WP Downloader fetch anything that account can already read. Your credentials are used only to fetch the story you requested. WPD does not bypass account restrictions.

What the saved copy contains

An EPUB is a snapshot of the story when you download it. It stays the same if the author later edits the online version, removes chapters, or deletes the work.

WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an existing EPUB. When the story changes, download the whole story again to make a newer copy. You can keep the old file too if you want both versions for your own reading.

WP Downloader creates EPUB and PDF files. It does not create MOBI, AZW3, or TXT files.

Store the file where you can find it

After the download finishes, move the book from your browser’s download location to a folder you use for saved stories.

If you download the story again after an update, rename your local files so you can tell the versions apart. Renaming the file does not change the story inside it.

Keep downloaded copies for your own reading. Do not re-upload or share them.

Add EPUB copies to calibre

Calibre is a free e-book manager for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It can help you organize a collection of downloaded stories.

To add an Ad Astra EPUB:

1. Open calibre.
2. Select “Add books.”
3. Choose the EPUB you downloaded from WP Downloader.
4. Check the book’s metadata and cover, then edit them if needed.
5. Open the book in calibre’s e-book viewer when you want to read it.

The viewer has a “Read aloud” feature for listening on your computer.

Calibre can convert an EPUB to AZW3, MOBI, or PDF when your app or device needs a format that WP Downloader does not produce. It can also send books to an e-reader connected by USB.

Move the copy to your reading device

Choose the method that suits your device:

• Phone or tablet: Open or import the EPUB in an e-book app that supports the format.
• Computer: Add the EPUB to calibre and read it in the built-in viewer.
• Kindle: Follow the Ad Astra Kindle guide.
• Kobo: Follow the Ad Astra Kobo guide.
• Other USB-connected e-readers: Use calibre to send the book to the connected device.

Open the book after transferring it to check that you chose the correct file and can read it on the device.

Download updates as new copies

A saved copy contains the version you downloaded. It does not track changes to the online story. If the author publishes more chapters or makes edits you want to keep, return to WP Downloader and download the whole story again.

You can keep both files or replace the older one in your personal library. WP Downloader cannot update the EPUB already on your device.

Can I save a members-only Ad Astra story?

Yes, if your Ad Astra account can already read it. Sign in when needed. WP Downloader only downloads content available to your account.

Can I download one chapter?

No. WP Downloader downloads whole Ad Astra stories. It does not download individual chapters or lists from this site.
