How to Back Up Royal Road Stories

Royal Road stories can be edited, unpublished, or deleted. Downloading a fiction with WP Downloader gives you an EPUB or PDF snapshot of the story as it appeared at the time, including every chapter.

Download the Royal Road story with WP Downloader

Remember that your download is a snapshot

A downloaded file does not update when the story changes on Royal Road. If the author publishes new chapters or revises earlier ones, download the fiction again to get the newer version.

You can also keep older downloads if you want copies of earlier versions of the story. Keep all downloaded copies for your own reading. Do not re-upload or share the author’s work.

Keep the original EPUB

Keep the EPUB file after importing it into a reading app or calibre. You can use the original file again if you move the story to another device or reading app.

If you prefer PDF, WP Downloader can create one after the required free Discord sign-in. WP Downloader does not create MOBI, AZW3, or TXT files.

Organize your backups with calibre

calibre is a free e-book manager for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It can store EPUB files in a library, edit their metadata and covers, convert them to other formats, and open them in its e-book viewer.

To add a Royal Road story:

1. Open calibre.
2. Select “Add books.”
3. Choose the EPUB you downloaded from WP Downloader.
4. Edit the metadata or cover if needed.
5. Open the story in calibre’s e-book viewer.

The viewer includes a “Read aloud” feature for listening on your computer.

calibre can also convert EPUB files to formats such as AZW3, MOBI, or PDF. This is useful when your e-reader needs a format that WP Downloader does not produce.

Move the story to an e-reader

After adding the EPUB to calibre, connect your e-reader to the computer over USB and send the book to the device.
