How Ad Astra Stories Work with Apple Books Reading Goals
You can read an Ad Astra story in Apple Books by downloading it as an EPUB or PDF with WP Downloader, then adding the file to your library. PDFs count toward Apple Books Reading Goals when Include PDFs is enabled. Apple does not say whether imported EPUBs count, so you will need to check on your device.
Download an Ad Astra story with WP Downloader
WP Downloader is a free web tool with nothing to install. Open the Ad Astra downloader and copy the link for the story you want to save. An Ad Astra work URL looks like this:

Choose a format:
- EPUB is free for everyone and opens in Apple Books.
- PDF requires a free Discord sign-in.
- You can include the story’s images in either format.
Signing in to your Ad Astra account is optional. It lets WP Downloader reach members-only stories that your account can read. Your credentials are used only to fetch the story you requested. WP Downloader cannot bypass locked content, paywalls, or age restrictions.

Add the story to Apple Books
Apple Books opens EPUB and PDF files on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Imported stories appear in your Library.
On iPhone or iPad
After downloading the story:
- Open the Files app or Safari’s downloads.
- Find the EPUB or PDF.
- Open the Share menu.
- Choose Books.
Apple Books will add the file to your Library.
On Mac
Open the Books app and drag the downloaded EPUB into it. You can also choose Add to Library from the File menu and select the file.
The story will then appear in your Apple Books Library.
How Apple Books Reading Goals work
Apple Books tracks how many minutes you read each day and how many books and audiobooks you finish each year.
The daily goal is five minutes by default. You can change it from the Reading Now tab on an iPhone or iPad, or from Home on a Mac.
Adding a file to your Library does not confirm whether Apple Books will include it in your reading time. PDFs have a specific setting, while Apple’s documentation does not explain how personally imported EPUBs are handled.
Include PDF reading in your goal
Time spent reading PDFs counts toward your reading goal only when Include PDFs is turned on.
On current versions of iOS, open Settings, Apps, and Books, then enable Include PDFs. On older versions, open Settings and Books to find the same option.
Once it is enabled, open the downloaded Ad Astra PDF in Apple Books and read it there.
Check whether an imported EPUB counts
Apple’s documentation does not say whether EPUB files you import yourself count toward daily reading time. You can test this on your device:
- Note today’s reading time in Apple Books.
- Open the imported Ad Astra EPUB.
- Read for a minute or two.
- Return to Reading Goals and see whether today’s total has increased.
An increase means Apple Books is counting the imported EPUB on your device. If the total stays the same, it may not be contributing to the displayed daily reading time.
