Track Imagine: The List Reading in Apple Books

You can read a downloaded Imagine: The List story in Apple Books. Apple does not clearly document whether an imported EPUB adds to your daily reading time, so the best way to find out is to read it for a minute or two and check whether today’s total goes up. PDFs need an extra setting before they count.

Download the story with WP Downloader

Add the story to Apple Books

Apple Books opens EPUB and PDF files on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Files you import appear in your Library.

On an iPhone or iPad

1. Open the Files app or Safari’s downloads.
2. Find the EPUB or PDF.
3. Tap Share.
4. Choose Books.

The story will be added to your Apple Books Library.

On a Mac

Open the Books app and drag the EPUB into it. You can also choose File, then Add to Library, and select the downloaded file.

The imported story will appear in your Library.

How Apple Books Reading Goals work

Apple Books Reading Goals track how many minutes you read each day and how many books and audiobooks you finish each year.

The daily goal is five minutes by default. To change it, use the Reading Now tab on an iPhone or iPad, or Home on a Mac.

A story appearing in your Library confirms that Apple Books imported it. It does not confirm that time spent reading it is being added to your daily goal.

Check whether an imported EPUB counts

Apple’s documentation does not say whether EPUB files you import yourself count toward daily reading time. You can check on your device:

1. Note today’s reading time in Apple Books.
2. Open the imported story.
3. Read for a minute or two.
4. Return to your Reading Goal.
5. See whether today’s reading time increased.

If the total does not change, you can still keep the story in your Library and read it there, but the time may not be included in the displayed daily goal.

Make PDF reading count

PDFs count toward the reading goal only when Include PDFs is turned on.

On current versions of iOS, open Settings, select Apps, choose Books, and turn on Include PDFs. On older versions, open Settings, choose Books, and turn on Include PDFs there.

After changing the setting, open the downloaded PDF in Apple Books, read for a minute or two, and check whether the daily total increased.
