Do Sam & Jack Stories Count Toward Apple Books Reading Goals?
You can read a downloaded Sam & Jack story in Apple Books. PDFs count toward Reading Goals when the Include PDFs setting is turned on. Apple does not clearly say whether EPUB files imported from outside the Books Store count toward daily reading time, so you will need to check after adding the story.
Download a Sam & Jack story with WP Downloader
WP Downloader is a free web tool that saves a whole story from samandjack.net as a file you can open in Apple Books. You do not need to install anything.
- Find the story on samandjack.net.
- Copy its story page URL. It should look similar to this:
https://samandjack.net/fanfics/viewstory.php?sid=1234 - Open the Sam & Jack downloader.
- Paste the story URL into the box.
- Choose EPUB or PDF. EPUB is free for everyone, while PDF requires a free Discord sign-in.
- Choose whether to include the story’s images.
- Download the file to your device.
WP Downloader saves the whole story. It cannot download a single chapter or a story list from Sam & Jack.
You can download public stories without signing in to Sam & Jack. Signing in is optional and gives WP Downloader access to members-only stories that your account can already read. Your credentials are used only to fetch the story you request. The tool does not bypass locked content or other access restrictions.
If the author adds more chapters, download the story again. WP Downloader cannot update an EPUB already in your library. See how to download Sam & Jack stories for a broader walkthrough.
Add the story to Apple Books on iPhone or iPad
After downloading the EPUB or PDF:
- Open the Files app or Safari’s downloads.
- Find the downloaded story.
- Tap Share.
- Choose Books.
Apple Books will open the file and add it to your Library.
Add the story to Apple Books on Mac
Open the Books app and use either method:
- Drag the downloaded EPUB into the Books app.
- In Books, choose File, then Add to Library, and select the file.
The imported story will appear in your Library.
How Apple Books Reading Goals work
Apple Books tracks how many minutes you read each day and how many books and audiobooks you finish each year.
The daily goal is five minutes by default. You can change it from the Reading Now tab on an iPhone or iPad, or from Home on a Mac.
PDFs have a specific setting that controls whether their reading time counts. Apple does not clearly document how Reading Goals handle EPUB files that you import yourself.
Make PDF reading count
Reading a PDF counts toward your goal only when Include PDFs is turned on.
On a current version of iOS:
- Open Settings.
- Choose Apps.
- Choose Books.
- Turn on Include PDFs.
On older versions of iOS, go to Settings, then Books, and turn on Include PDFs.
After enabling the setting, open the downloaded PDF in Apple Books and read it there.
Check whether an imported EPUB counts
Apple’s documentation does not say whether an EPUB you imported yourself counts toward daily reading time. You can check it in Apple Books:
- Note today’s reading time before opening the story.
- Open the imported Sam & Jack EPUB.
- Read for a minute or two.
- Return to Reading Now on an iPhone or iPad, or Home on a Mac.
- Check whether today’s reading time increased.
If the total does not change, you can still keep the story in your Apple Books Library and read it there. It may simply not add to the displayed daily reading time.
