Add the story to Apple Books

Apple Books opens EPUB and PDF files on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Imported stories appear in your Library.

On iPhone or iPad

1. Download the EPUB or PDF with WP Downloader.
2. Open the file from the Files app or Safari’s downloads.
3. Tap Share.
4. Choose Books.

Apple Books will add the story to your Library.

On Mac

1. Download the story as an EPUB or PDF.
2. Open the Books app.
3. Drag the EPUB into the Books window.

How Apple Books Reading Goals work

Apple Books Reading Goals track how many minutes you read each day and how many books and audiobooks you finish each year.

The daily goal is five minutes by default. To change it on an iPhone or iPad, use the Reading Now tab. On a Mac, use Home.

An imported story appearing in your Library confirms that Apple Books can open it. It does not confirm whether Apple Books has added its reading time to your daily goal.

Check whether an imported EPUB counts

Apple’s documentation does not say whether EPUB files you import yourself count toward daily reading time. Test the file on your device:

1. Note today’s reading time in Apple Books.
2. Open the imported Sheppard/Weir EPUB.
3. Read for a minute or two.
4. Return to your Reading Goals.
5. See whether today’s reading time has increased.

Make PDFs count toward your goal

PDFs count toward the reading goal only when Include PDFs is turned on.

On current versions of iOS, open Settings, choose Apps, then Books, and enable Include PDFs. On older versions, open Settings, choose Books, and enable the same option.

After turning it on, open the imported PDF in Apple Books. Note your reading time, read for a minute or two, and check whether the total increases.
