Use Apple Books Reading Goals with Star Trek Fan Fiction

Apple Books can open a Star Trek Fan Fiction story saved as an EPUB or PDF. PDFs count toward Reading Goals when Include PDFs is turned on. Apple does not document whether EPUB files you import yourself count, so you will need to test the EPUB after adding it.

Find the downloaded EPUB or PDF in the Files app or Safari’s downloads. Open the file, tap Share, and choose Books.

The imported story will appear in your Apple Books Library.

Open the Books app, then add the EPUB in either of these ways:

• Drag the EPUB into the Books app.
• Choose File, then Add to Library, and select the EPUB.

The story will appear in your Library after it is imported.

How Apple Books Reading Goals work

Apple Books tracks how many minutes you read each day and how many books and audiobooks you finish each year. The daily goal is set to 5 minutes by default.

On an iPhone or iPad, you can change the daily goal from the Reading Now tab. On a Mac, change it from Home.

Adding a story to your Library does not tell you whether Apple Books will record the time you spend reading it. Open the imported file and check the day’s reading time to find out.

Do imported Star Trek fan fiction EPUBs count?

Apple’s documentation does not say whether EPUB files you import yourself count toward daily reading time. You can check how Apple Books handles the file on your device:

1. Note today’s reading time in Apple Books.
2. Open the imported EPUB.
3. Read for a minute or two.
4. Return to your Reading Goals.
5. Check whether today’s reading time increased.

Make a downloaded PDF count

PDFs count toward the reading goal only when Include PDFs is turned on.

On current iOS versions:

1. Open Settings.
2. Choose Apps.
3. Choose Books.
4. Turn on Include PDFs.

On older iOS versions, open Settings, choose Books, and turn on Include PDFs.

Once the setting is enabled, open the imported PDF in Apple Books and read it. You can check the day’s reading time afterward.
