How to Listen to Fanfiction on Any Device

To listen to fanfiction, download the story as an EPUB with WP Downloader and open it in a reading app with a read-aloud feature. You can do this on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows, macOS, and Linux.

How to listen to fanfiction in three steps

1. Copy the story link

Open the story and copy its web address. Check the list of supported fiction sites to make sure the site is supported.

WP Downloader works with 91 sites: Wattpad, Inkitt, Royal Road, stck.me, and 87 other fiction archives, forums, and web-novel sites. Support for those 87 archives was ported from FanFicFare, the open-source fanfiction downloader.

2. Download the story as an EPUB

Go to WP Downloader and paste the link into the box. The tool will detect which site the link comes from. Choose EPUB as the output format and decide whether to include the story’s images. EPUB downloads are free for everyone.

Some sites require an account. Others let you sign in optionally to access members-only stories. WP Downloader uses your credentials only to fetch the story you requested. It can download only what your account can already read and does not bypass locked chapters, paywalls, or age restrictions.

For the 87 additional archive sites, WP Downloader downloads complete stories. It does not download individual chapters or lists from those sites.

3. Open the EPUB and use read aloud

Open the EPUB in a reading app with text-to-speech. The app uses the voices installed on your device, so the available voices determine how the narration sounds.

Apple Books opens EPUB files and works with the built-in Speak Screen accessibility feature.

To turn on Speak Screen:

1. Open Settings.
2. Select Accessibility.
3. Select Spoken Content.
4. Turn on Speak Screen.
5. Open the downloaded EPUB in Apple Books.
6. Swipe down with two fingers from the top of the screen to start reading aloud.

You can use this method without installing another EPUB reader.

How to listen on Android

Android offers several ways to read an EPUB aloud.

Select to Speak

Turn on Select to Speak under Settings and Accessibility. You can then select or tap items on the screen to hear them read aloud.

Moon+ Reader

Moon+ Reader opens EPUB files and has a built-in text-to-speech mode. Download the story with WP Downloader, open the EPUB in Moon+ Reader, and start its read-aloud mode.

@Voice Aloud Reader

@Voice Aloud Reader also reads EPUB files aloud. It is an option for readers who want a dedicated Android app for downloaded stories.

How to listen on Windows, macOS, or Linux

You can open the downloaded EPUB in a desktop reader with a read-aloud feature.

Thorium Reader

Thorium Reader is free and works on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Open the EPUB in Thorium Reader, then start its read-aloud feature.

calibre

calibre is another free desktop option. Its e-book viewer opens EPUB files and has a Read aloud feature.

Both readers use the text-to-speech voices installed on your computer. Changing the installed voices may change how the narration sounds.

Listening to a single Wattpad story with Audora

WP Downloader provides another option for single Wattpad stories. Paste a single Wattpad story link into WP Downloader, and a “Listen to audiobook” button will appear. The button opens Audora, a sister service that turns the story into an audiobook.

This button appears only for single Wattpad stories. For AO3, Inkitt, Royal Road, stck.me, and the other supported sites, download the EPUB and use one of the read-aloud methods above.

Choosing a method for your device

Choose a reader based on the device you use:

• On iPhone or iPad, open the EPUB in Apple Books and use Speak Screen.
• On Android, use Select to Speak, Moon+ Reader, or @Voice Aloud Reader.
• On Windows, macOS, or Linux, use Thorium Reader or calibre.
• For a single Wattpad story, you can also use the Audora button in WP Downloader.

To get newly published chapters, download the story again. WP Downloader cannot update an EPUB you previously downloaded.

Can I listen to fanfiction offline?

Download the story as an EPUB, then open it in a reading app with a read-aloud feature. Whether that app works offline depends on the app and device.

Does WP Downloader create an audio file?

WP Downloader creates EPUB and PDF files, not audio files. To hear a story read aloud, open the EPUB in a compatible app. For a single Wattpad story, you can also use the Audora option to turn the story into an audiobook.

Which fanfiction sites can I use?
