How to Listen to FicWad Stories With Text-to-Speech
To listen to a FicWad story, download it as an EPUB with WP Downloader and open the file in a reading app that works with your device’s text-to-speech tools.
Step 1: Download the FicWad story as an EPUB
WP Downloader is a free web tool, and you do not need to install anything. It downloads the whole FicWad story as one EPUB file.
- Open the FicWad downloader.
- Copy the FicWad story URL from your browser. It should look like this:
https://ficwad.com/story/1234- Paste the URL into WP Downloader.
- Choose whether to include the story’s images.
- Download the story as an EPUB.
EPUB downloads are free for everyone. WP Downloader can also create a PDF after you sign in with Discord for free. For the read-aloud tools in this guide, use the EPUB.
WP Downloader downloads whole FicWad stories. It does not download individual chapters or story lists. If the author publishes more chapters, download the story again to get a new EPUB with the latest available version.
Public stories do not require a FicWad account. You can sign in with your FicWad account to reach members-only stories that the account can already read. WP Downloader does not bypass locked content or access restrictions. It uses your credentials only to fetch the story you request.

Step 2: Open the EPUB and start text-to-speech

Listen on an iPhone or iPad
Apple’s Speak Screen feature can read an EPUB open in Apple Books.
Open Settings, then go to Accessibility and Spoken Content. Turn on Speak Screen. Open the downloaded EPUB in Apple Books and go to the part where you want to start. Swipe down from the top of the screen with two fingers to begin reading aloud.
Listen on an Android phone or tablet
Android has a feature called Select to Speak. To turn it on, open Settings and go to Accessibility. You can then tap items on the screen to hear them read aloud.
Moon+ Reader can open EPUB files and has a built-in read-aloud mode. You can also use @Voice Aloud Reader to read an EPUB aloud.
Listen on Windows, macOS, or Linux
Thorium Reader is a free EPUB reader for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Open the downloaded file in Thorium Reader and use its read-aloud feature.
Calibre is another free desktop option. Its e-book viewer has a Read aloud feature that works with EPUB files.
Choose a voice that is comfortable to hear
These tools use the text-to-speech voices installed on your device. How natural the narration sounds depends on the voices available. If the voice sounds too mechanical, check your phone, tablet, or computer for another installed voice.
Keep your FicWad library organized
Use clear filenames if you plan to save several stories, and keep the EPUB files together so they are easy to find in your reading app.
WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an existing EPUB. When a FicWad story gets new chapters, download it again and open the new file in your text-to-speech app.
