Listen on an iPhone or iPad
Apple Books opens EPUB files, and the built-in Speak Screen feature reads the text aloud.
Turn on Speak Screen:
- Open Settings.
- Select Accessibility.
- Select Spoken Content.
- Turn on Speak Screen.
Open the downloaded EPUB in Apple Books. With the story on screen, swipe down from the top with two fingers to start reading it aloud.
Speak Screen uses the text-to-speech voices installed on your device, so the narration will sound different depending on the voice you use.
Listen on Android
You can use Android’s Select to Speak feature or an EPUB app with its own read-aloud mode.
Use Select to Speak
Turn on Select to Speak in the Accessibility section of your Android settings. Once enabled, tap or select items on the screen to hear them read aloud.

Thorium Reader and calibre both open EPUB files and include read-aloud features.
Use Thorium Reader
Thorium Reader is free and available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Open the Quotev EPUB in Thorium Reader and start its read-aloud feature.

calibre is a free desktop app. Add or open the EPUB, launch it in calibre’s e-book viewer, and select Read aloud.
