How to put Imagine: The List stories on Kindle with calibre
To read an Imagine: The List story on a Kindle without Amazon’s Send to Kindle service, download the story as an EPUB with WP Downloader. You can then use calibre to convert it to AZW3 and transfer it to the Kindle over USB.
What you need
You will need:
- The link to an Imagine: The List story
- A Windows, macOS, or Linux computer
- calibre installed on the computer
- A USB cable for your Kindle
- Access to the story on imagine.e-fic.com
calibre is a free e-book manager. It can add EPUB files to a library, edit their metadata and covers, convert them to other formats, and send books to a connected e-reader.
Step 1: Copy the story link
Open the story on imagine.e-fic.com and copy the URL from your browser’s address bar. It should look like this:

Step 2: Download the EPUB
Open the Imagine: The List downloader in your browser. WP Downloader is a free web tool, and you do not need to install anything.
Paste the story link into the box and start the download. WP Downloader detects that the link comes from Imagine: The List and downloads the whole story as an EPUB. You can choose to include the story’s images.
You do not need an account for public stories. If a story is available only to members, you can sign in with your Imagine: The List account. WP Downloader uses your credentials only to fetch the story you requested, and it can download only what your account is already allowed to read.
Save the EPUB somewhere you can find it, such as your Downloads folder. The Imagine: The List download guide covers this step in more detail.
Step 3: Add the EPUB to calibre
Open calibre and select “Add books.” Find the EPUB you downloaded and add it to your calibre library.
The story will appear in the book list. You can use calibre’s metadata tools to edit its title, author information, or cover before transferring it.
You can also check the EPUB in calibre’s e-book viewer. The viewer has a “Read aloud” feature if you want to listen on your computer.
Step 4: Convert the EPUB to AZW3
Select the story in calibre, then choose “Convert books.” Set AZW3 as the output format and start the conversion.
WP Downloader does not create AZW3 or MOBI files, but calibre can convert the EPUB to either format. AZW3 is a Kindle format that you can copy to the device over USB.
Amazon’s Send to Kindle service no longer accepts MOBI files. Kindle devices can still open MOBI and AZW3 files copied over USB, but this guide uses AZW3.
Step 5: Transfer the story over USB
Connect the Kindle to your computer with its USB cable and wait for calibre to recognize it.
Select the converted story and choose “Send to device.” calibre will copy the AZW3 file to the Kindle over the USB connection.
Wait for the transfer to finish before disconnecting your Kindle.
Downloading an updated story
WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you already have. When an Imagine: The List story is updated, download the complete story again. Add the new EPUB to calibre, convert it to AZW3, and transfer the new file to your Kindle.
