How to put PMD Fan Fiction stories on a Kindle with calibre
You can put a PMD Fan Fiction story on your Kindle without using Amazon’s Send to Kindle service. First, download the whole story as an EPUB with WP Downloader. You can then use calibre to convert it to AZW3 and copy it to your Kindle over USB.
You will need a computer for this method. calibre is a free e-book manager for Windows, macOS, and Linux. WP Downloader is a free web tool, so you do not need to install anything to download the story.
What you need
Have these ready:
- The PMD Fan Fiction story page
- A computer with calibre installed
- Your Kindle e-reader
- A USB cable that connects your Kindle to the computer
A PMD Fan Fiction story URL looks like this:
https://www.pmdfanfiction.com/story/story-title-here WP Downloader can download whole stories from pmdfanfiction.com. It does not download individual chapters or story lists from this archive.
Step 1: Download the story with WP Downloader
Open the PMD Fan Fiction downloader and paste the story URL into the box. WP Downloader will detect the archive and prepare the whole story.
Choose EPUB as the output format. EPUB is free for everyone and can be added to calibre for conversion. You can also choose whether to include the story’s images.
You do not need a PMD Fan Fiction account or sign-in. Once the EPUB is ready, save it somewhere easy to find, such as your downloads folder. For more help with this step, see the PMD Fan Fiction download guide.
WP Downloader does not create AZW3 or MOBI files. You will use calibre to convert the EPUB.
Step 2: Add the EPUB to calibre
Open calibre and select Add books. Find the EPUB you downloaded from WP Downloader and add it to your calibre library.
The story will appear in the book list. If you want, you can edit its metadata or cover before converting it. You can skip this step if everything already looks right.
You can also check the story in calibre’s e-book viewer before transferring it. The viewer has a Read aloud feature for listening on your computer.
Step 3: Convert the EPUB to AZW3
Select the story in calibre and choose Convert books. Set EPUB as the input format and AZW3 as the output format, then start the conversion.
AZW3 is a Kindle format that you can copy directly to a Kindle e-reader over USB. calibre can also convert EPUB files to formats such as MOBI and PDF, but AZW3 works well for this method.
Amazon’s Send to Kindle service no longer accepts MOBI files. This change applies to that service, while Kindle e-readers can still open MOBI and AZW3 files copied over USB.
Step 4: Connect your Kindle over USB
Connect your Kindle to the computer with its USB cable, then wait for calibre to recognize it.
Once the device controls appear, select the converted story and choose Send to device. calibre will copy the book to your Kindle.
Wait for the transfer to finish before disconnecting the Kindle. The story will then be available to read offline on the device.
When to use a USB transfer
A USB transfer is useful if you already manage your books in calibre, want to edit the story’s metadata or cover, or prefer not to use Send to Kindle.
To use Amazon’s service instead, follow the guide to send PMD Fan Fiction stories to Kindle. For another e-reader, see how to read PMD Fan Fiction stories on Kobo.
Updating a story with new chapters
WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you already have. If the author publishes more chapters, paste the story link into WP Downloader again and download a new copy of the whole story.
Add the new EPUB to calibre, convert it to AZW3, and transfer that version to your Kindle over USB.
