Put Potions and Snitches stories on a Kindle with calibre
You can put a Potions and Snitches story on a Kindle without using Amazon’s Send to Kindle service. First, download the complete story as an EPUB with WP Downloader. You can then use calibre to convert it to AZW3 and transfer it to your Kindle over USB.
You will need a computer, a USB connection, and calibre.
What you need
Have these ready:
- The Potions and Snitches story page
- A Windows, macOS, or Linux computer
- The free calibre e-book manager
- Your Kindle and a suitable USB cable
WP Downloader is a free web tool, so you do not need to install anything for the download step. Potions and Snitches does not require you to sign in.
Step 1: Copy the Potions and Snitches story link
Open the story on potionsandsnitches.org or potionsandsnitches.net. Its address should look like this:

Step 2: Download the story with WP Downloader
Open the Potions and Snitches downloader and paste the story link into the box. WP Downloader will recognize the site and prepare the story.
Choose EPUB as the output format. EPUB is free for everyone, and you can choose whether to include the story’s images.
WP Downloader does not create MOBI or AZW3 files. Calibre can convert the downloaded EPUB to a Kindle format before transferring it to the device.

Step 3: Add the EPUB to calibre
Open calibre and select Add books. Find the EPUB you downloaded and add it to your calibre library.
The story will appear with your other books. You can edit its metadata or cover before converting it.
Keep the original EPUB in your library if you may want to convert it to another format later.
Step 4: Convert the story to AZW3
Select the story in calibre and open the conversion option. Choose AZW3 as the output format, then start the conversion.
AZW3 is a Kindle format that you can transfer over USB. Calibre keeps the EPUB in your library and adds the converted file alongside it.
Calibre can also convert the EPUB to MOBI. Kindles still open MOBI and AZW3 files copied over USB, although Amazon’s Send to Kindle service no longer accepts MOBI. This guide uses AZW3.
Step 5: Connect the Kindle over USB
Connect your Kindle to the computer with its USB cable. After calibre recognizes the device, select the Potions and Snitches story in your library and choose Send to device.
Calibre will transfer the converted book to your Kindle. Once the transfer finishes, you can open the story on the device and read it offline.

Downloading new chapters later
WP Downloader cannot update an EPUB you have already downloaded. When the author adds chapters, return to the downloader and download the complete story again.
Add the new EPUB to calibre, convert it to AZW3, and transfer the new version to your Kindle.
Reading the story on your computer
Calibre also has an e-book viewer for reading the EPUB or converted book on your computer. The viewer includes a Read aloud feature.

Does WP Downloader make AZW3 or MOBI files?
No. WP Downloader creates EPUB files for everyone and PDF files with a free Discord sign-in. Use calibre to convert an EPUB to AZW3 or MOBI.
Why use USB instead of Send to Kindle?
USB allows calibre to transfer the converted story directly to a connected Kindle without uploading it through Amazon’s Send to Kindle service.
Can Kindle still open MOBI files over USB?
Yes. Kindles still open MOBI and AZW3 files copied over USB. Amazon’s decision to stop accepting MOBI applies only to Send to Kindle.
Can I download only one chapter?
No. WP Downloader downloads whole Potions and Snitches stories only. It does not download individual chapters or story lists.
Will the Kindle copy update when new chapters appear?
