How to Read AO3 Stories on a NOOK
To read an Archive of Our Own story on a Barnes & Noble NOOK, download it as an EPUB with WP Downloader and copy the file to your device. WP Downloader is free to use in your browser, with nothing to install.
Download the AO3 story as an EPUB
Open the AO3 Downloader in your browser. It accepts story links from archiveofourown.org, archiveofourown.com, and archiveofourown.net.
Copy the link to the story you want. It should look like this:
https://archiveofourown.org/works/123456 Paste the link into WP Downloader, which will detect that it comes from Archive of Our Own and prepare the story.
Select EPUB, the free format that works with a NOOK. You can also choose to include the story’s images.
WP Downloader saves the whole story. It cannot download a single chapter or a list of stories from AO3. When the EPUB is ready, save it somewhere you can easily find it, such as your downloads folder.

Members-only stories
You do not need to sign in for public AO3 stories. For a members-only story, sign in with your Archive of Our Own account so WP Downloader can access it.
WP Downloader uses your credentials only to fetch the story you requested. It can download only material your account is allowed to read and cannot bypass account requirements, age restrictions, or other access controls.
Support for Archive of Our Own and the other fiction archives in WP Downloader was ported from FanFicFare, the open-source fanfiction downloader.
Copy the EPUB to your NOOK
Barnes & Noble calls copying your own files to a NOOK “sideloading.” On a NOOK GlowLight, you can sideload the EPUB over USB.
- Connect your NOOK GlowLight to your computer with USB.
- If your model shows a USB notification, swipe down from the top of the NOOK screen.
- Tap “USB for charging.”
- Choose “Transfer files (MTP).”
- On your computer, open the drive named “NOOK.”
- Drag the downloaded EPUB onto the NOOK drive.
- Wait for the transfer to finish.
- Eject the NOOK from your computer before unplugging the USB cable.
You can now open the AO3 story on your NOOK and read it offline.
The USB screen varies by model. Some GlowLight models appear as the “NOOK” drive when connected, while newer models require you to select the MTP file transfer option first.
Get new chapters
WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you already have. When the AO3 story is updated, paste its link into WP Downloader again and download a new copy.
Copy the new EPUB to your NOOK with the same USB steps. The file will contain the chapters that were available when you downloaded it.
Read on another e-reader
Transfer steps vary between e-readers. Amazon device owners can follow the guide to send AO3 stories to Kindle. If you have a Rakuten device, see how to read AO3 stories on Kobo.
