Choose where to read
Pick a format that your device and reading app can open, then download it while you still have a reliable internet connection.
Phone or tablet
Open EPUB files in an EPUB reader on your phone or tablet. Use a PDF reader for PDF files.
Open the downloaded file in your reading app before you leave. This checks that the download is complete and that the app supports your chosen format.
Make sure the story is stored on the device you are taking. A copy left on another phone, tablet, or computer will not be available on the plane.
Kindle e-reader or Kindle app
Download the EPUB or PDF, then send it to Kindle while you are still online. Amazon’s Send to Kindle service accepts EPUB and PDF files in three ways:
- Email to your Kindle’s Send-to-Kindle address
- The Send to Kindle app
- Send to Kindle on the web
Amazon converts the EPUB and adds the book to your Kindle library. You can then open it on a Kindle e-reader or in the Kindle app. Delivery requires an internet connection, so send the file before your flight.
When sending the file by email, use an address on your approved sender list. WP Downloader does not create MOBI files, and Send to Kindle no longer accepts them.

Test the book in airplane mode
Check the book before leaving:
- Finish downloading or sending it.
- Open it in your reading app or on your e-reader.
- Turn on airplane mode.
- Close the book, open it again, and move through a few chapters.
If the book still opens, it is stored on your device and ready for the flight. If it does not, reconnect to the internet and finish transferring or opening the file.
Download the story again if it changes
WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you have already downloaded. If the author publishes another chapter before your trip, download the whole story again and put the new file on your device.
