Download the Phoenixsong.net story before your flight and save it on the device you are taking. Once the EPUB or PDF is on the device, you can read it without Wi-Fi.

Download the story before your flight

Find the story on Phoenixsong.net. Its address should look like this:

Copy the address and open the Phoenixsong downloader. Paste the link into the box. WP Downloader will detect the site.

You can download the story in either of these formats:

• EPUB is free for everyone and works with ebook reading apps, Kindle, and Kobo.
• PDF requires a free Discord sign-in and opens in PDF reading apps.

You can also include the story’s images. WP Downloader downloads the whole story from Phoenixsong.net, not individual chapters or story lists.

Put the story on your travel device

Make sure the file is stored on the device you will take on the plane. A file left in online storage may be unavailable without a connection.

Phone or tablet

Download the EPUB directly to your phone or tablet, or move it there before you leave. Open it in an EPUB reading app.

If you downloaded a PDF, open it in a PDF reading app. Check the file while you still have internet so you know where it is saved and which app opens it.

Kindle e-reader or Kindle app

Amazon’s Send to Kindle accepts EPUB and PDF files. You can email the file from an approved sender address to your Kindle’s Send-to-Kindle address, use the Send to Kindle app, or send it through the web.

Amazon converts the EPUB and adds the book to your Kindle library. It can then appear on Kindle e-readers and in the Kindle app. Delivery requires an internet connection, so send the story before your flight and check that it has reached the device you are bringing.

WP Downloader does not create MOBI or AZW3 files, and Send to Kindle no longer accepts MOBI. Use EPUB for this method. The Phoenixsong Kindle guide explains the full process.

Kobo

Download the story as an EPUB and put it on your Kobo before the trip. Open it once to make sure the transfer worked. See the Phoenixsong Kobo guide for device-specific instructions.

Laptop

Save the EPUB or PDF on the laptop itself. Open EPUB files in an EPUB reading app and PDFs in a PDF app. Check the file from its saved location before you leave.

Test it in airplane mode

Test the file before the flight:

1. Finish downloading or transferring the story.
2. Open it on the device and in the app you plan to use.
3. Turn on airplane mode.
4. Make sure Wi-Fi is off.
5. Close the story, reopen it, and move through several chapters.

If the story opens, the file is available offline. If it does not, reconnect and check that the file was saved or delivered to the device.

For Kindle, confirm that the book has fully reached the Kindle e-reader or Kindle app you will use. It may be in your Kindle library without having downloaded to your travel device.

Before you leave

Check that:

• The whole story is on your travel device.
• It opens in your EPUB or PDF app.
• Any Kindle delivery has finished.
• The story reopens in airplane mode.
• You downloaded the story again if new chapters were added after your earlier download.

WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an existing EPUB. To get the latest version, paste the story link into the downloader again and create a new file.
