How to Read Royal Road Stories in KOReader

Download the Royal Road fiction as an EPUB with WP Downloader, then copy the file to your Kobo, PocketBook, Android device, or jailbroken Kindle. You can open it from KOReader’s file browser.

WP Downloader is a free browser-based tool, so there is nothing to install. You do not need a Royal Road account. It puts the complete fiction and all of its chapters into one file for offline reading.

Download the story as an EPUB

Find the fiction on royalroad.com. Its URL should look like this:

https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/12345

Copy the URL and follow these steps:

1. Open the Royal Road downloader.
2. Paste the fiction URL into the box.
3. Wait while WP Downloader detects Royal Road and prepares the story.
4. Choose EPUB as the output format.
5. Choose whether to include the story’s images.
6. Download the EPUB.

EPUB is free for everyone and opens directly in KOReader. WP Downloader also creates PDFs, although PDF downloads require a free Discord sign-in.

Copy the EPUB to your device

Move the downloaded EPUB to the device where you use KOReader.

Kobo or PocketBook

Connect the device to your computer with USB and copy the EPUB as you normally would. Put it in a folder that you can find from KOReader’s file browser.

Once the transfer finishes, disconnect the device. Open KOReader and browse to the folder containing the EPUB.

Android

Download the EPUB to your Android phone or tablet, or copy it from your computer using your usual Android file transfer method.

Open KOReader, find the EPUB in its file browser, and select it to start reading.

Jailbroken Kindle

KOReader runs on Kindles that have been jailbroken. Copy the EPUB to the Kindle, open KOReader, and locate the book in its file browser.

Open the story in KOReader

After copying the EPUB:

1. Start KOReader.
2. Open its file browser.
3. Go to the folder containing the EPUB.
4. Select the story file.

The Royal Road fiction will open for offline reading. Since every chapter is in one file, you only need to transfer one EPUB.

Download newly published chapters

WP Downloader cannot add chapters to an EPUB you already have. When the author publishes new chapters, return to the Royal Road downloader, paste the fiction URL again, and download the story as a new file.

The new EPUB will contain every chapter available when you download it. Copy it to your device and open it in KOReader as before.
