How to Track Royal Road Stories on Goodreads and The StoryGraph

You can track a Royal Road story on Goodreads or The StoryGraph separately from the file you read. Download the story as an EPUB with WP Downloader, then look for its record on your preferred tracking service. If the story is missing, Goodreads may let you add it, while calibre offers a private way to manage your reading list.

Download the story from Royal Road

WP Downloader is a free web tool, and Royal Road downloads do not require an account.

1. Open the Royal Road downloader.
2. Copy the fiction’s Royal Road URL. It should look like this:

3. Paste the link into WP Downloader.
4. Choose whether to include the story’s images.
5. Download the story as an EPUB.

The whole fiction, with every chapter, is saved as one file. EPUB downloads are free for everyone. PDF is also available after a free Discord sign-in.

WP Downloader does not create MOBI, AZW3, or TXT files. You can use calibre to convert the EPUB if you need one of those e-book formats.

Track the story on Goodreads

Search Goodreads for the story’s title and author. Most fanfiction and web serials are missing from its database, but the story may already have a record.

If you cannot find it, Goodreads accounts with a verified email can add a book manually:

1. Make sure your Goodreads account has a verified email address.
2. Go to goodreads.com/book/new in your browser.
3. Enter the story’s title and author. These are the minimum required details.
4. Submit the record.
5. Use the new record to track your reading.

Brand-new Goodreads accounts cannot add books by hand. Goodreads librarians handle later edits and merge duplicate records.

Check The StoryGraph

Search The StoryGraph for the title and author. Its database may contain the story, though web serials can be missing there too.

The StoryGraph does not publish clear official instructions for adding works that are not books. If the story is missing, check its current help pages for the available options. You can use calibre as a private alternative if those pages do not offer a suitable way to add it.

Put the EPUB on your reading device

The EPUB and the tracking record are separate. You read the downloaded file offline and use the Goodreads or The StoryGraph record to organize your reading.

Manage the story in calibre

calibre is a free e-book manager for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It can hold your Royal Road EPUBs in a private library, whether or not the stories appear on Goodreads or The StoryGraph.

After installing calibre:

1. Select Add books and choose the EPUB from WP Downloader.
2. Edit the story’s metadata or cover if needed.
3. Open it in calibre’s e-book viewer to read on your computer.

Download a new copy for new chapters

WP Downloader cannot update an EPUB you have already downloaded. When the author publishes more chapters, paste the Royal Road fiction URL into WP Downloader again and download the story as a new file.
