Add FictionAlley Stories to Your Calibre Library

To add a FictionAlley Archive story to calibre, download it as an EPUB with WP Downloader and import the file into your calibre library. You can then organize it, edit its details, read it, convert it, or transfer it to an e-reader.

WP Downloader is a free web tool, so there is nothing to install. You do not need a FictionAlley account to download a story.

Download a FictionAlley story as an EPUB

Open the FictionAlley downloader. You can also paste the story link into the box on the WP Downloader home page, which detects the archive automatically.

A FictionAlley Archive story URL looks like this:

To download the story:

1. Copy its URL.
2. Paste the URL into WP Downloader.
3. Choose EPUB as the output format.
4. Choose whether to include the story’s images.
5. Download the completed EPUB to your device.

WP Downloader downloads the whole story from FictionAlley Archive. It cannot download a single chapter or a list from this site.

EPUB downloads are free for everyone. PDF is also available with a free Discord sign-in, though EPUB is a convenient format to add to calibre.

Add the EPUB to calibre

calibre is a free e-book manager for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Once the EPUB has downloaded, open calibre and select “Add books.”

Find the EPUB on your computer and select it. calibre will add the story to your library, where you can read it, organize it, edit its details, or transfer it to another device.

You can add several stories to the same library instead of keeping separate EPUB files in your downloads folder.

Check the story details and cover

Select the story in calibre and open the metadata editor. From there, you can review or change its book details and cover.

Consistent titles and other available details can make a large fanfiction library easier to browse. You can also change the cover that appears in calibre or on your e-reader.

These edits affect only the copy in your calibre library. They do not change the original FictionAlley story.

Read the story in calibre

calibre includes an e-book viewer, so you can open the story from your library and read it on your computer without a separate e-reader.

The viewer also includes a “Read aloud” feature for listening to the story from the EPUB in your calibre library.

Convert the EPUB to another format

WP Downloader produces EPUB files and, with a free Discord sign-in, PDF files. It does not produce MOBI, AZW3, or TXT files.

If you need another supported e-book format, calibre can convert the EPUB. For example, it can convert EPUB files to AZW3, MOBI, or PDF.

You can keep the original EPUB in your library as a source file in case you want to convert it to a different format later.

Send the story to an e-reader over USB

Connect your e-reader to your computer with a USB cable. Once calibre recognizes it, select the FictionAlley story and use the option to send the book to the connected device.

Manage updated stories

WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you have already downloaded. To get a newer version of a FictionAlley story, download the whole story again from its URL.

Add the new EPUB to calibre and organize it alongside the older copy as you prefer. Check that the new download contains the version you expected before removing or replacing anything.

FAQ

Do I need a FictionAlley account?

No. WP Downloader does not require you to sign in to download FictionAlley Archive stories.

Can WP Downloader add a story directly to calibre?

WP Downloader creates the e-book file. Download the EPUB, then select “Add books” in calibre to add it to your library.

Can I download only one FictionAlley chapter?

No. WP Downloader downloads whole FictionAlley stories. It does not download individual chapters or lists from this site.

Can I get a MOBI or AZW3 file?

WP Downloader does not produce MOBI or AZW3 files. Download the EPUB, add it to calibre, and convert it there.

Will my calibre copy receive new chapters automatically?

No. WP Downloader does not update an existing EPUB. Download the whole story again when you want a newer copy.
