Add Pretender Centre Stories to calibre

To add a Missing Pieces story to calibre, download it as an EPUB with WP Downloader and import the file using Add books. You can then organize, read, convert, or transfer it like any other e-book. WP Downloader is a free browser-based tool, so there is nothing to install. Pretender Centre stories do not require an account.

Download the story with WP Downloader

Find the story on the Missing Pieces archive at pretendercentre.com. Its address should look similar to this:

Copy the full address from your browser, open the Pretender Centre downloader, and paste the link into the box. WP Downloader will detect the site.

Select EPUB as the output format. EPUB is free for everyone and can be added directly to calibre. You can also include the story’s images.

WP Downloader saves the entire story. It cannot download an individual chapter or a list from Missing Pieces, and you do not need to sign in to Pretender Centre.

PDF is also available with a free Discord sign-in. EPUB is a practical choice for calibre because you can manage it in your library, read it in calibre’s viewer, and convert it to another e-book format.

Add the EPUB to your calibre library

After the EPUB downloads:

1. Open calibre.
2. Select Add books.
3. Find the downloaded EPUB.
4. Select the file and add it to your library.

The story will appear in calibre’s book list. calibre is free and available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

You can store and read the EPUB without converting it. Select the story and open it in calibre’s e-book viewer to read it on your computer.

Edit the title, author, and cover

Use calibre’s metadata editor to change how the story appears in your library. You can edit details such as its title and author or replace its cover.

Using the same format for author names across your library can make stories easier to find. You can also apply the same approach to titles and authors when importing books from several archives.

These edits apply only to the copy in calibre. They do not change the story on Pretender Centre.

Convert the story for another device

WP Downloader creates EPUB and PDF files. It does not create MOBI, AZW3, or TXT files.

If your device or reading app needs another format, import the EPUB into calibre and use its conversion tools. calibre can convert EPUB files to formats such as AZW3, MOBI, and PDF.

You may want to keep the original EPUB in your library so you can use it as the source if you need another format later.

Transfer the story to an e-reader

calibre can send books to an e-reader connected to your computer over USB. Connect the device, wait for calibre to recognize it, select the story, and choose the option to send the book to the device.

Make sure the book is in a format your device supports. Use calibre to convert the EPUB first if needed.

When the transfer is complete, disconnect the e-reader and open the story from its library.

Read or listen in calibre

You can read the EPUB on your computer with calibre’s e-book viewer. Select the story in your library and open it.

The viewer also has a Read aloud feature that lets you listen to the EPUB without making a separate audiobook file.

Download an updated story

WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you already have. When a Missing Pieces story is updated, copy its URL and download the whole story again.

Add the new EPUB to calibre, then decide whether to keep the older copy. You can edit the title or other metadata if you need a clear way to tell the versions apart.

Do I need a Pretender Centre account?

No. WP Downloader can download Missing Pieces stories without a Pretender Centre sign-in.

Can I download one chapter instead of the whole story?
