How to Add SciFiStories Stories to calibre
Download the complete SciFiStories story as an EPUB with WP Downloader, then import it with calibre’s Add books button. Once it is in your library, you can edit its details and cover, convert it to another format, read it offline, or transfer it to an e-reader.
What you need
WP Downloader is a free web tool, with nothing to install. calibre is a free e-book manager for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
You also need an account on scifistories.com. WP Downloader can download only the stories your account is allowed to read. It does not bypass locked content, paywalls, or age restrictions. Your credentials are used only to fetch the story you request.

Step 1: Download the SciFiStories story
Open the SciFiStories downloader and paste the story link into the box. WP Downloader will detect the site from the URL.
Sign in with your SciFiStories account, then choose your download options. You can include the story’s images in the book.
EPUB is a practical choice for calibre:
- EPUB downloads are free for everyone.
- calibre can add and read EPUB files.
- calibre can convert an EPUB to AZW3, MOBI, or PDF.
WP Downloader can also create a PDF, which requires a free Discord sign-in. It does not create MOBI, AZW3, or TXT files.
Save the file somewhere easy to find, such as your downloads folder. The SciFiStories download guide covers the download process in more detail.
Step 2: Add the EPUB to calibre
Open calibre and select Add books. Choose the EPUB you downloaded from WP Downloader.
The story will appear in your calibre library, where you can keep it with your other e-books instead of leaving it in your downloads folder. Select the book to view its information or open it in calibre’s e-book viewer.
Step 3: Edit the metadata and cover
Metadata is the information calibre uses to identify and organize a book. You can edit the imported story’s details and cover in calibre.
Check the title, author information, and cover, then make any changes that will help you recognize the story later. This is optional, but consistent details can make a larger fiction library easier to manage.
Step 4: Read or listen in calibre
Open the story in calibre’s e-book viewer to read it on your computer. The EPUB is stored locally, so you can read it offline.
The viewer also has a Read aloud feature for listening to the story from your computer.
Step 5: Convert the story if needed
You can keep the original EPUB if it works with your reading setup. If another device or app needs a different format, calibre can convert it to:
- AZW3
- MOBI
WP Downloader does not create AZW3 or MOBI files. Download the EPUB, add it to calibre, and convert it there.
The converted file contains the same story as the EPUB. Conversion cannot unlock anything your SciFiStories account was unable to access.
Step 6: Transfer it to an e-reader
Connect your e-reader to the computer by USB. Select the story in calibre and send it to the connected device. If your e-reader does not support EPUB, convert the book to a compatible format first.

Managing updated stories
WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB already in your calibre library. When a story is updated, download the complete story again and add the new file to calibre.
Check the two editions before deciding which one to keep so that you do not confuse the older download with the newer one. You can also edit the metadata or cover after adding the new copy.

Can I add a SciFiStories EPUB directly to calibre?
