How to Back Up Inkitt Stories for Personal Reading
Authors can edit, unpublish, or delete their Inkitt stories. If you want to keep the version you are reading, WP Downloader can save the whole story as an EPUB for your personal use.
The EPUB is a snapshot of the story at the time of download. Later edits and new chapters will not appear in it automatically.
Download an Inkitt story with WP Downloader
WP Downloader is a free web tool, so you do not need to install anything. You will need the story link and an Inkitt account that can read the story.
An Inkitt story link looks like this:
https://www.inkitt.com/stories/202117 To save a copy:
- Open the Inkitt downloader.
- Paste the story link into the box.
- Sign in with your Inkitt email address and password.
- Choose EPUB, which is free for everyone.
- Choose whether to include the story’s images.
- Download the finished file and save it somewhere you can find it again.
WP Downloader downloads whole Inkitt stories, not individual chapters. It uses your credentials only to fetch the story you requested and can access only material your account can already read. It does not bypass locked chapters, paywalls, or age restrictions.
You can also download a PDF after signing in with a free Discord account. For more instructions, see the Inkitt download guide.
What an EPUB backup preserves
Your EPUB contains the version of the story that WP Downloader fetched when you downloaded it. If the author later changes a scene, corrects a chapter, or adds an ending, the file you already have will stay the same.
WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an existing EPUB. To save the latest version, return to the downloader and download the whole story again. You can keep both files if you want the earlier snapshot as well as the updated version.
Keep downloaded copies for your own reading. Do not re-upload or share them.
Store the EPUB safely
Do not leave the EPUB only in a temporary downloads list. Move it to the folder or e-book library where you keep your personal files.
A clear filename can help you tell different snapshots apart. You can include the story name and download date while leaving the .epub extension unchanged. If you download the story again later, use a new date so you do not replace the earlier copy.
You can read the file on the device where you downloaded it or add it to an e-book library on your computer. If you copy it to another device, keep the original EPUB as your backup.
Organize and read EPUB files with calibre
calibre is a free e-book manager for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It can keep several Inkitt downloads together in one library.
Open calibre and use Add books to import the EPUB. You can then:
- Edit its metadata and cover
- Read it in calibre’s e-book viewer
- Use the viewer’s Read aloud feature
- Convert it to AZW3, MOBI, or PDF
- Send it to a connected e-reader over USB
WP Downloader does not create MOBI, AZW3, or TXT files. If you need AZW3 or MOBI, download the EPUB and convert your personal copy with calibre.
For help with a particular device, see how to send Inkitt stories to Kindle or read Inkitt stories on Kobo.
Downloading a newer copy
Download the story again when you want a snapshot containing later chapters or revisions. WPD downloads the whole story each time, creating a separate EPUB instead of updating the old file.
Make your personal copy while your Inkitt account can still read the story. WP Downloader cannot fetch content that is no longer available to your account.
