How to Back Up Whofic Stories for Personal Reading
Authors and sites can edit, unpublish, or delete stories. Downloading a Whofic story gives you a personal copy that you can keep on your phone, computer, or e-reader.
Download a Whofic story with WP Downloader
WP Downloader is a free web tool, and there is nothing to install. Links from A Teaspoon And An Open Mind usually look like this:
https://www.whofic.com/viewstory.php?sid=1234 To save a copy:
- Open the Whofic downloader.
- Copy the story’s main Whofic URL from your browser.
- Paste the URL into the box.
- Choose whether to include the story’s images.
- Download the story as an EPUB.
You do not need to sign in to Whofic. WP Downloader saves the whole story, not an individual chapter or a list of stories.
EPUB downloads are free for everyone. PDF downloads require a free Discord sign-in. WP Downloader does not create MOBI, AZW3, or TXT files.
See how to download Whofic stories for more help with the download steps.
Keep each version as a snapshot
An EPUB contains the version of the story that was available when you downloaded it. If the author later revises or removes the online story, your file remains a snapshot of that earlier version.
WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you already have. When a story is updated, paste its link into WP Downloader again and download a new copy. You can replace the older file or keep both versions.
Adding the download date to the filename can make different copies easier to identify:
Whofic story - 2026-10-07.epub Changing the filename does not change the story inside the EPUB.
Store your EPUB files
After downloading the EPUB, move or copy it to a folder where you keep saved fiction. You might separate Whofic stories from books downloaded from other archives. If you keep several versions of one story, add a date or version note to each filename.
You can also keep another copy in a separate personal storage location. Check occasionally that you can still find and open your files.
Keep downloaded stories for your own reading. Do not re-upload them or share the files with other people.
Organize Whofic stories with calibre
calibre is a free e-book manager for Windows, macOS, and Linux. You can use it to organize Whofic EPUB files in a personal library.
After installing calibre:
- Open calibre and select “Add books.”
- Choose the Whofic EPUB you downloaded.
- Edit the book’s metadata or cover if needed.
- Open the book in calibre’s e-book viewer to read it on your computer.
- Use the viewer’s “Read aloud” feature to listen.
calibre can convert an EPUB to AZW3, MOBI, PDF, and other formats. This is useful when your reading device or app needs a format that WP Downloader does not provide.
You can also connect an e-reader to your computer over USB and use calibre to send books from your library to the device. For Kindle instructions, see how to send Whofic stories to Kindle.
Read your copy on another device
On a phone or tablet, open the EPUB in an app that supports EPUB files. Keep the original file in your backup folder so you can use it with another reader later.
For a Kobo device, follow the guide to reading Whofic stories on Kobo. On a computer, you can read the file in calibre’s e-book viewer.
Download updated stories again
Download the story again when new chapters appear or when you want to keep a revised version. Each download is a new snapshot of the complete story available at that time.
If nothing has changed, you do not need another copy. For an unfinished story, downloading it after an update avoids filling your library with identical files.
