Do Fiction.live Stories Count Toward Apple Books Reading Goals?

You can add a Fiction.live story to Apple Books as an EPUB or PDF. PDFs count toward Reading Goals when Apple’s Include PDFs setting is turned on. Apple does not say whether EPUB files you import yourself count toward daily reading time, so you will need to test the imported book on your device.

Download a Fiction.live story with WP Downloader

WP Downloader is a free web tool with nothing to install. Open the Fiction.live downloader and paste the story’s Fiction.live URL into the box.

A story link usually looks like this:

https://fiction.live/stories/Example-Story-Title/17CharacterIDhere/home

WP Downloader accepts links from fiction.live and beta.fiction.live. You do not need to sign in.

You can download the story in either of these formats:

  • EPUB is free for everyone.
  • PDF requires a free Discord sign-in.

You can also choose whether to include the story’s images.

WP Downloader downloads the whole story. It cannot download a single chapter or a list. It also cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you already have. Download the story again when you want an updated copy.

Add the story to Apple Books

Apple Books opens EPUB and PDF files on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Imported books appear in your Library.

On iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the downloaded EPUB or PDF from the Files app or Safari’s downloads.
  2. Tap Share.
  3. Choose Books.

The story will appear in your Apple Books Library.

On Mac

Open the Books app and drag the downloaded EPUB into it. You can also choose File, then Add to Library, and select the file.

The imported story will appear in your Library.

How Apple Books Reading Goals work

Reading Goals track how many minutes you read each day and how many books and audiobooks you finish each year.

The daily goal is five minutes by default. You can change it from the Reading Now tab on an iPhone or iPad, or from Home on a Mac.

Check whether your imported EPUB counts

Apple’s documentation does not say whether an EPUB you import yourself counts toward daily reading time. Check it on your device with a short test:

  1. Note today’s reading time in Apple Books.
  2. Open the imported Fiction.live EPUB.
  3. Read for a minute or two.
  4. Return to Reading Goals.
  5. See whether today’s reading time has increased.

If the total goes up, Apple Books counted that reading session on your device. If it stays the same, the imported EPUB did not count in your current setup.

Include PDFs in Reading Goals

PDFs count toward your reading goal only when Include PDFs is turned on.

On current iOS versions, open Settings, then Apps, then Books, and turn on Include PDFs. On older versions, open Settings, then Books, and find the same option.

You can then test the PDF by noting your current reading time, reading for a minute or two, and checking the total again.
