Do FictionAlley Stories Count Toward Apple Books Reading Goals?
You can download a FictionAlley Archive story as an EPUB or PDF, add it to Apple Books, and read it offline. PDFs count toward Apple Books Reading Goals when Include PDFs is turned on. Apple does not say whether EPUB files you import yourself count, so you will need to test the story after adding it to Apple Books.
Download a FictionAlley story with WP Downloader

Choose EPUB or PDF. EPUB is free for everyone, while PDF requires a free Discord sign-in.
Choose whether to include the story’s images, then download the file.
WP Downloader downloads the full story from FictionAlley Archive. It cannot download a single chapter or a list from this site. To get any chapters added later, download the story again. WP Downloader cannot update an EPUB you already have.

Add the story to Apple Books
Apple Books opens EPUB and PDF files on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Imported books appear in your Library.
On iPhone or iPad
- Open the downloaded file from Safari’s downloads or the Files app.
- Tap Share.
- Choose Books.
Apple Books will add the story to your Library, where you can open it and read offline.
On Mac
Open the Books app and drag the downloaded EPUB into it. You can also choose File, then Add to Library, and select the EPUB.
The story will appear in your Apple Books Library.
How Apple Books Reading Goals work
Apple Books tracks how many minutes you read each day and how many books and audiobooks you finish each year.
The daily goal is five minutes by default. To change it, use the Reading Now tab on an iPhone or iPad, or Home on a Mac.
Check whether an imported FictionAlley EPUB counts
Apple’s documentation does not say whether an EPUB you import yourself counts toward your daily reading time. You can check the result in Apple Books:
- Note today’s reading time.
- Open the imported FictionAlley EPUB.
- Read for a minute or two.
- Return to Reading Now on your iPhone or iPad, or Home on your Mac.
- Check whether today’s reading time has increased.
Reading for at least a minute makes any change easier to see. If the total goes up, Apple Books is counting the EPUB on your device. If it stays the same, the reading time is not being added to that day’s total.
Make a FictionAlley PDF count toward your goal
Apple Books counts time spent reading PDFs only when Include PDFs is enabled.
On current versions of iOS, open Settings, choose Apps, then Books, and turn on Include PDFs. On older versions, open Settings, choose Books, and turn on Include PDFs there.
Open the FictionAlley PDF in Apple Books and read for a minute or two, then check the day’s reading time. If you want to track a longer reading session, check the setting first.
