Do Lumos Stories Count Toward Apple Books Reading Goals?
Apple Books can open a Lumos story downloaded as an EPUB or PDF. Apple does not say whether EPUB files you import yourself count toward daily Reading Goals, so you will need to check on your device. Import the EPUB, read for a minute or two, and see whether today’s reading time increases. For PDFs, turn on Include PDFs first.
Download a Lumos story with WP Downloader
WP Downloader is a free web tool with nothing to install. It can download a complete Lumos story as an EPUB or PDF.
Go to the Lumos downloader and follow these steps:
- Copy the Lumos story URL from your browser.
- Paste the URL into WP Downloader.
- Choose EPUB or PDF.
- Choose whether to include the story’s images.
- Download the file.
A Lumos story URL looks like this:
http://lumos.sycophanthex.com/viewstory.php?sid=1234 You do not need to sign in to Lumos. WP Downloader downloads whole stories from this site, so it cannot download a single chapter or a list. EPUB is free for everyone, while PDF requires a free Discord sign-in.

Add the story to Apple Books

On an iPhone or iPad
After downloading the file:
- Open it from the Files app or Safari’s downloads.
- Open the Share menu.
- Choose Books.
The imported story will appear in your Apple Books Library.
On a Mac
Open the Books app and drag the downloaded EPUB into it. You can also select File, then Add to Library, and choose the EPUB.
The imported story will appear in your Library.
How Apple Books Reading Goals work
Reading Goals track how many minutes you read each day and how many books and audiobooks you finish each year.
The daily goal is five minutes by default. You can change it from the Reading Now tab on an iPhone or iPad, or from Home on a Mac.
WP Downloader creates the EPUB or PDF. Apple Books determines whether reading that imported file adds time to your goal.
Check whether an imported Lumos EPUB counts
Apple’s documentation does not explain whether EPUB files you import yourself count toward daily reading time. Check the result on your device:
- Note today’s current reading time.
- Open the imported Lumos EPUB from your Library.
- Read for a minute or two.
- Return to Reading Goals.
- See whether today’s reading time has increased.
Repeat the check if you move to another device or switch from EPUB to PDF.
Make PDFs count toward your goal
Apple Books counts PDFs toward your reading goal only when Include PDFs is turned on.
On current iOS versions, open Settings, Apps, and Books, then turn on Include PDFs. On older versions, open Settings and Books to find the option.
Once the setting is on, open the Lumos PDF in Apple Books and read it there. You can confirm that tracking works by noting today’s time, reading for a minute or two, and checking the total again.
Downloading a PDF from WP Downloader requires a free Discord sign-in. If you prefer EPUB, download that format and use the earlier test to see whether Apple Books records the reading time.
