Do SciFiStories Stories Count Toward Apple Books Reading Goals?

Apple Books can open SciFiStories stories saved as EPUB or PDF files. Apple does not say whether EPUBs you import yourself count toward your daily Reading Goal, so you will need to check after reading for a minute or two. PDFs can count if Include PDFs is turned on.

Download a SciFiStories story

WP Downloader is a free web tool that works without an installation. It can download a whole SciFiStories story as an EPUB or PDF for Apple Books.

Copy the story’s address from scifistories.com. It should look like this:

1. Open the SciFiStories downloader.

EPUB is free for everyone. PDF requires a free Discord sign-in.

For SciFiStories, WP Downloader downloads whole stories rather than individual chapters or lists. It can only download material your account is already allowed to read. Add the story to Apple Books

Apple Books opens EPUB and PDF files on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

On iPhone or iPad

After downloading the story:

1. Open the Files app or Safari’s downloads.
2. Find the EPUB or PDF file.
3. Open the Share menu.
4. Choose Books.

The imported story will appear in your Apple Books Library.

On Mac

Open the Books app and drag the EPUB into it. You can also choose File, then Add to Library, and select the downloaded file.

The story will appear in your Library after it is imported.

How Reading Goals work

Apple Books Reading Goals track the number of minutes you read each day and the number of books and audiobooks you finish each year.

The daily goal is five minutes by default. You can change it from Reading Now on an iPhone or iPad, or from Home on a Mac.

Adding a SciFiStories file to your Library does not record reading time or mark the story as finished. You need to open the file and read it in Apple Books.

Check whether an imported EPUB counts

Apple does not document whether EPUB files you import yourself count toward daily reading time. Check how Apple Books behaves on your device:

1. Note today’s reading time in Apple Books.
2. Open the imported SciFiStories EPUB.
3. Read for a minute or two.
4. Return to your Reading Goal.
5. See whether today’s total has increased.

If the total increases, Apple Books is counting time spent reading that EPUB. If it does not, make sure you read inside Apple Books and try another short session before checking again.

Count reading time from a PDF

A PDF counts toward the reading goal only when Include PDFs is enabled.

On current versions of iOS, open Settings, choose Apps, then Books, and turn on Include PDFs. On older versions, open Settings, choose Books, and find the same option.

Open the imported PDF in Apple Books, read for a minute or two, and check whether today’s reading time increases.
