Do Twilighted stories count toward Apple Books Reading Goals?

You can read a downloaded Twilighted story in Apple Books. Apple does not clearly document whether imported EPUB files add to your daily Reading Goal, so you will need to check after importing the story. Read for a minute or two and see whether today’s reading time increases. PDFs can count when the Include PDFs setting is turned on.

Download a Twilighted story with WP Downloader

Add the story to Apple Books

Apple Books opens EPUB and PDF files on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Imported stories appear in your Library.

On iPhone or iPad

After the file downloads:

1. Open it from the Files app or Safari’s downloads.
2. Tap Share.
3. Choose Books.
4. Wait for Apple Books to open the file and add it to your Library.

An EPUB opens as a regular book. A PDF keeps its page-based layout.

On Mac

Open the Books app and drag the downloaded EPUB into it. You can also choose File, then Add to Library, and select the file.

When the import finishes, find the story in your Apple Books Library and open it.

How Apple Books Reading Goals work

Apple Books tracks:

• How many minutes you read each day. The default daily goal is five minutes.
• How many books and audiobooks you finish each year.

On an iPhone or iPad, you can view and change your daily goal from the Reading Now tab. On a Mac, use Home.

Apple’s documentation does not say whether EPUB files you import yourself contribute to daily reading time. Test the file on your device to find out whether Apple Books counts it.

Check whether your Twilighted EPUB counts

After adding the story:

1. Open Apple Books and note today’s reading time.
2. Open the imported Twilighted EPUB.
3. Read for a minute or two.
4. Return to Reading Now on your iPhone or iPad, or Home on your Mac.
5. Check whether today’s reading time has increased.

If the time goes up, Apple Books is recording your reading activity for that file on your device. If it stays the same, the imported EPUB may not be contributing to the goal. Apple does not provide a setting that guarantees imported EPUB files will count.

Read normally during the test instead of leaving the book open.

Make a Twilighted PDF count toward your goal

PDFs count toward the reading goal only when Include PDFs is enabled.

On current versions of iOS:

1. Open Settings.
2. Go to Apps.
3. Choose Books.
4. Turn on Include PDFs.

On older versions, open Settings, choose Books, and turn on Include PDFs.

After enabling the setting, open the Twilighted PDF in Apple Books and repeat the short reading test. Then check whether the activity appears in today’s total.
