How to Listen to Lumos Stories With Text-to-Speech
To listen to a Lumos story with text-to-speech, download it as an EPUB and open the file in a reading app with a read-aloud feature. WP Downloader is a free browser-based tool, so there is nothing to install. You do not need to sign in to Lumos.
Download a Lumos story with WP Downloader
Find the story on lumos.sycophanthex.com and copy its address from your browser. Lumos story links look like this:
http://lumos.sycophanthex.com/viewstory.php?sid=1234 - Open the Lumos downloader.
- Paste the story link into the box.
- Wait while WP Downloader detects the site and collects the story.
- Choose EPUB as the output format.
- If you want the story’s images in the book, turn on the image option.
- Download the EPUB to your device.
EPUB downloads are free for everyone and work with the reading apps in this guide. WP Downloader can also make a PDF, though that requires a free Discord sign-in. For the EPUB readers below, choose EPUB.
Lumos downloads include the whole story. You cannot download an individual chapter or a list. If the author adds more chapters, paste the link into WP Downloader again and download a new EPUB. An EPUB you already downloaded will not update automatically.

Listen on an iPhone or iPad
Apple Books opens EPUB files, and the Speak Screen accessibility feature on iPhones and iPads can read them aloud.
Turn on Speak Screen
- Open Settings.
- Go to Accessibility.
- Select Spoken Content.
- Turn on Speak Screen.
Open the EPUB in Apple Books, then swipe down with two fingers from the top of the screen to start reading the page aloud.
Speak Screen uses the text-to-speech voices installed on your device. The voices you have installed affect how natural the narration sounds.
Listen on Android
You can use Android’s Select to Speak feature or open the EPUB in an app that supports text-to-speech.
Use Select to Speak
Open Settings, go to Accessibility, and turn on Select to Speak. You can then tap items on the screen to hear them read aloud.
Use Moon+ Reader
Moon+ Reader opens EPUB files and has a built-in text-to-speech mode. Open the downloaded Lumos EPUB in the app and start read-aloud mode.
Use @Voice Aloud Reader
@Voice Aloud Reader can also read EPUB files aloud. Open or import the EPUB from WP Downloader, then start listening in the app.
These Android options use the text-to-speech voices installed on your device, so the narration will sound different depending on the voices available.
Listen on Windows, macOS, or Linux
Thorium Reader and calibre can read an EPUB aloud on a computer.
Use Thorium Reader
Thorium Reader is a free EPUB reader for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Open the Lumos EPUB and start its read-aloud feature.
Use calibre
calibre is a free desktop e-book application. Add the EPUB, open it in calibre’s e-book viewer, and select Read aloud.
Both programs use the text-to-speech voices installed on your computer. The voice you choose affects how natural the narration sounds.
Keep the EPUB for offline listening
After downloading the EPUB and installing your chosen reader, you can keep a local copy of the story on your device. You can then open it without returning to the Lumos story page.
You can also move the EPUB to another e-reader. Follow the guide for sending Lumos stories to Kindle or reading Lumos stories on Kobo.
