How to listen to MediaMiner stories with text-to-speech
To listen to a MediaMiner story with text-to-speech, download the whole story as an EPUB with WP Downloader and open it in a reader with a read-aloud feature.
Download the MediaMiner story
WP Downloader is a free web tool, and you do not need to install anything or sign in to a MediaMiner account.
- Open the story on mediaminer.org.
- Copy the URL from your browser’s address bar. It should look like this:
https://www.mediaminer.org/fanfic/s/category-name/story-title/123456- Go to the MediaMiner downloader.
- Paste the story URL into the box.
- Choose EPUB as the output format.
- Choose whether to include the story’s images.
- Download the file to your device.
EPUB downloads are free for everyone. WP Downloader can also create a PDF, but that requires a free Discord sign-in. The readers in this guide all open EPUB files.
WP Downloader downloads the whole story from MediaMiner. It does not download single chapters or lists. If the author publishes new chapters, download the story again to create a new EPUB. WP Downloader cannot update your existing file.

Listen on an iPhone or iPad
Apple Books opens EPUB files, and the iPhone and iPad include a feature called Speak Screen that reads the page aloud.
Turn on Speak Screen
- Open Settings.
- Select Accessibility.
- Select Spoken Content.
- Turn on Speak Screen.
Open the EPUB in Apple Books. To hear the page, swipe down with two fingers from the top of the screen.
Speak Screen uses the text-to-speech voices installed on your device, so the available voices determine how the reading sounds.
Listen on Android
You can use Android’s Select to Speak feature or an EPUB reader with built-in text-to-speech.
Use Select to Speak
Open Settings, select Accessibility, and turn on Select to Speak. You can then tap items on the screen to hear Android read them aloud.
Use Moon+ Reader
Moon+ Reader opens EPUB files and has a built-in text-to-speech mode. Open the MediaMiner EPUB in the app and start its read-aloud mode.
Use @Voice Aloud Reader
@Voice Aloud Reader also opens EPUB files and reads them aloud. Open your downloaded story in the app to listen with your device’s text-to-speech voices.
Listen on Windows, macOS, or Linux
Thorium Reader and calibre can read EPUB files aloud on a computer.
Use Thorium Reader
Thorium Reader is free and available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Open the MediaMiner EPUB in Thorium Reader and use its read-aloud feature.
Use calibre
calibre is a free desktop application with an e-book viewer. Open the EPUB in the viewer, then use the Read aloud feature.
Both readers use the text-to-speech voices installed on your computer. How natural the reading sounds depends on those voices.
