Put a GoodNovel Story on a Kindle with Calibre
You can put a GoodNovel story on a Kindle without Amazon’s Send to Kindle service. Download the story as an EPUB with WP Downloader, convert it to AZW3 in calibre, and transfer it to your Kindle over USB.
What you need
You will need:
- A computer running Windows, macOS, or Linux
- The free calibre e-book manager
- A USB cable for your Kindle
- The GoodNovel story link
- An EPUB downloaded with WP Downloader
WP Downloader is a free web tool, so you do not need to install anything. You do not need a GoodNovel account to download a story. The download includes the free chapters that are already available. It does not buy or unlock paid chapters.
Step 1: Copy the GoodNovel story link
Open the story on goodnovel.com and copy the URL from your browser. A GoodNovel book link looks like this:

Step 2: Download the story as an EPUB
Open the GoodNovel downloader and paste the story URL into the box. WP Downloader detects the site and prepares the chapters it can access.
Choose EPUB as the output format. EPUB is free for everyone and works with calibre. You can also include the story’s images.
The book will contain the free chapters available from the story. Paid chapters are left out because WP Downloader only downloads content that is already available without a purchase.

Step 3: Add the EPUB to calibre
Open calibre on your computer and select “Add books.” Choose the EPUB file you downloaded from WP Downloader.
The book will appear in your calibre library. You can edit its metadata or cover before transferring it. You can also open the EPUB in calibre’s e-book viewer to check the book.
The viewer has a “Read aloud” feature if you want to listen to the story on your computer.
Step 4: Convert the EPUB to AZW3
Select the book in calibre and choose “Convert books.” Set AZW3 as the output format, then start the conversion.
AZW3 is a Kindle format that you can transfer directly over USB. WP Downloader does not create AZW3 or MOBI files, but calibre can convert the EPUB to either format.
Calibre can also convert EPUB files to formats such as MOBI and PDF. This guide uses AZW3 for a Kindle e-reader connected by USB.
Step 5: Connect your Kindle over USB
Connect the Kindle to your computer with its USB cable. After calibre recognizes the e-reader, select the converted book and choose “Send to device.”
Calibre will copy the book to the Kindle. When the transfer finishes, disconnect the device and look for the story in your Kindle library.
The file travels directly from your computer to the e-reader, so this method does not use Amazon’s Send to Kindle service.
Why use calibre?
Calibre lets you keep the original EPUB in its library, convert it to a Kindle format, and send it directly to a connected device.
Kindles can still open MOBI and AZW3 files copied over USB. Amazon stopped accepting MOBI through its Send to Kindle service, but Kindle e-readers can still open MOBI files transferred directly. This guide uses AZW3 for new conversions in calibre.

Updating the story later
WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you have already downloaded. If more free chapters become available, paste the GoodNovel story link into WP Downloader again and download a new copy.
Add the new EPUB to calibre, convert it to AZW3, and send the new file to your Kindle over USB.

Can WP Downloader download paid GoodNovel chapters?
