Put a StoryRoom Story on Kindle With Calibre
You can put a StoryRoom story on a Kindle without Amazon’s Send to Kindle service. First, download the story as an EPUB with WP Downloader. You can then add it to calibre, convert it to AZW3, and transfer it to your Kindle over USB.
You will need a computer because calibre runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. WP Downloader is a free web tool, so you do not need to install anything for the download.
What you need
Before you start, gather:
- A StoryRoom account
- The link to the story
- A computer with calibre installed
- A Kindle e-reader and its USB cable
A StoryRoom URL looks like this:

WPD can retrieve only the content your account is allowed to read. It cannot bypass locked content, paywalls, or age restrictions.
Step 1: Download the StoryRoom story as an EPUB
Open the StoryRoom downloader and paste the story URL into the box. WP Downloader will detect the source. Sign in with your account on the relevant site when prompted.
Choose EPUB as the output format. EPUB is free for everyone and works as the starting format for conversion in calibre. You can also choose whether to include the story’s images.
WP Downloader downloads the whole story. It does not download individual chapters or lists from StoryRoom. If the author adds more chapters later, download the story again. WPD cannot update an EPUB you already downloaded.
You can also download a PDF after signing in with a free Discord account. For this process, use EPUB so calibre can convert the story to a Kindle format.

Step 2: Add the EPUB to calibre
Open calibre on your computer and select Add books. Find the EPUB from WP Downloader and add it to your calibre library.
Once the story appears in calibre, you can edit its metadata or cover if needed. You can skip this if everything already looks right.
You can also check the EPUB in calibre’s e-book viewer before transferring it. The viewer has a Read aloud feature for listening on your computer.
Step 3: Convert the EPUB to AZW3
Select the StoryRoom book in your calibre library and choose Convert books. Set the output format to AZW3, then start the conversion.
AZW3 is a Kindle format that you can copy to a Kindle over USB. calibre can also convert EPUB files to formats such as MOBI and PDF, but this guide uses AZW3.
Wait for the conversion to finish before continuing.
Step 4: Connect your Kindle over USB
Connect your Kindle e-reader to the computer with its USB cable. When calibre recognizes it, the device option will appear in the app.
This process applies to a physical Kindle e-reader connected to a computer. It does not use Amazon’s Send to Kindle service.
Step 5: Send the story to your Kindle
Select the converted StoryRoom book in calibre and choose Send to device. calibre will transfer the book to the connected Kindle.
Wait for the transfer to finish before disconnecting the e-reader. You can then read the story offline on your Kindle.

Why use calibre instead of Send to Kindle?
A USB transfer moves the book directly from your computer to your Kindle e-reader. calibre also provides a local library for organizing books, editing metadata and covers, converting formats, and reading EPUB files on your computer.
Amazon’s Send to Kindle service no longer accepts MOBI files. Kindle e-readers can still open MOBI and AZW3 files copied over USB. Converting the EPUB to AZW3 lets you transfer the story without using Send to Kindle.
