How to Put a Whofic Story on Kindle with calibre
You can put a story from A Teaspoon And An Open Mind, also known as Whofic, on your Kindle without Amazon’s Send to Kindle service. First, download the complete story as an EPUB with WP Downloader. You can then use calibre to convert it to AZW3 and transfer it to your Kindle over USB.
What you need
You will need:
- The Whofic story page
- A computer running Windows, macOS, or Linux
- The free calibre e-book manager
- Your Kindle and a USB cable
- An internet connection to download the story

Step 1: Copy the Whofic story link
Open the story on whofic.com and copy the URL from your browser’s address bar. A Whofic story URL looks like this:

Step 2: Download the story with WP Downloader
Go to the Whofic downloader and paste the story link into the box. WP Downloader will recognize the A Teaspoon And An Open Mind link and prepare the story.
Choose EPUB as the output format. EPUB is free for everyone and can be converted by calibre. You can also choose whether to include the story’s images.

WP Downloader does not create AZW3 or MOBI files. You will use calibre for the conversion.
Step 3: Add the EPUB to calibre
Open calibre and select Add books. Find the EPUB you downloaded and add it to your calibre library.
Select the story in the library. You can edit its metadata or cover before converting it, or leave both as downloaded.
Step 4: Convert the EPUB to AZW3
With the story selected, choose Convert books. Set the output format to AZW3 and start the conversion.
AZW3 is a Kindle format that you can transfer over USB. Kindle devices can still open AZW3 and MOBI files copied this way. Amazon stopped accepting MOBI through Send to Kindle, but that change does not affect files transferred over USB.
calibre can create an AZW3 file from the EPUB you downloaded with WP Downloader.
Step 5: Connect your Kindle over USB
Connect your Kindle to the computer with its USB cable and wait for calibre to recognize it.
Select the converted story, then choose Send to device. calibre will copy the book to your Kindle.
Wait for the transfer to finish before disconnecting the Kindle. The Whofic story will then be available for offline reading.
When to use a USB transfer
A USB transfer is useful if you do not want to use Send to Kindle or want calibre to convert the EPUB to a Kindle format first. After downloading the story, the rest of the process takes place on your computer and Kindle.

Updating a story with new chapters
WP Downloader cannot update an EPUB already stored in your calibre library. When the author adds chapters, return to the Whofic story page and download the complete story again.
Add the new EPUB to calibre, convert it to AZW3, and send the new version to your Kindle over USB.
