How to Read a Dokuga Story on a Kobo

To read a Dokuga story on a Kobo, download it as an EPUB with WP Downloader and copy the file to your e-reader. Kobo opens EPUB files directly, so no conversion or additional reading app is needed.

Download the Dokuga story as an EPUB

WP Downloader is a free browser-based tool, so there is nothing to install.

Find the Dokuga story you want to read. Its address should look like this:

http://www.dokuga.com/fanfiction/story/1234/1

Then:

  1. Open the Dokuga downloader.
  2. Paste the story link into the box.
  3. Choose EPUB as the output format.
  4. Choose whether to include the story’s images.
  5. Start the download and save the EPUB to your device.

WP Downloader downloads the entire story from Dokuga. It cannot download individual chapters or story lists from this site.

Public stories do not require an account. If a story is available only to Dokuga members, you can sign in with your Dokuga account to download content that account can already read. WP Downloader uses your credentials only to fetch the story you requested and does not bypass access restrictions.

EPUB downloads are free for everyone, and Kobo e-readers support the format directly. WP Downloader can also create a PDF, but that requires a free Discord sign-in and is unnecessary for these steps.

WP Downloader’s support for Dokuga and other fiction archives was ported from FanFicFare, the open-source fanfiction downloader.

Add the EPUB to your Kobo with a USB cable

A USB cable works without a cloud account.

  1. Connect your Kobo e-reader to your computer with a USB cable.
  2. Wait for the Kobo to appear as a drive on the computer.
  3. Open the Kobo drive.
  4. Copy the downloaded EPUB onto it.
  5. Eject the Kobo safely.
  6. Open your Kobo library and find the story.

The story should appear in your library after you eject the device. You can open it like any other EPUB and read it without an internet connection.

Add the story through Dropbox

Some Kobo models can receive non-protected EPUB and PDF files through Dropbox. You need Kobo software version 4.18 or later and one of these models:

  • Kobo Forma
  • Kobo Sage
  • Kobo Elipsa
  • Kobo Elipsa 2E
  • Kobo Libra Colour

Link your Dropbox account from the e-reader, put the EPUB in the Kobo Dropbox folder, and sync the device. The story will appear on that Kobo.

Books added through Dropbox appear only on the device where you added them. They are not automatically added to your other Kobo devices.

Add the story through Google Drive

Google Drive requires Kobo software version 4.37 or later and one of the same supported models:

  • Kobo Forma
  • Kobo Sage
  • Kobo Elipsa
  • Kobo Elipsa 2E
  • Kobo Libra Colour

On your e-reader, go to Home, More, and My Google Drive, then select Get Started. Kobo will display a code. Enter it on the Kobo website to link your account.

Put the EPUB in the connected Google Drive folder and sync your e-reader. The story will appear in the device’s library. Books added through Google Drive appear only on that Kobo.

Download new chapters later

WP Downloader cannot update an EPUB you have already downloaded. When the author adds chapters, return to the Dokuga downloader and download the entire story again.

Transfer the new EPUB to your Kobo by USB, Dropbox, or Google Drive.

You can also send a Dokuga story to Kindle or read Dokuga stories offline.
