How to Read Kakuyomu Stories on Android
WP Downloader saves Kakuyomu stories as EPUB or PDF files that you can open on an Android phone or tablet. EPUB downloads are free for everyone, and you do not need a Kakuyomu account.
Download a Kakuyomu story
Find the story on kakuyomu.jp. Its address should look like this:

- Open the Kakuyomu Downloader in your Android browser.
- Paste the Kakuyomu story link into the box.
- Choose EPUB or PDF.
- Choose whether to include the story’s images.
- Download the finished file to your phone or tablet.
Anyone can download an EPUB without signing in to WP Downloader. Creating a PDF requires a free Discord sign-in.
WP Downloader downloads the whole story. It cannot download a single Kakuyomu chapter or a list of stories. Kakuyomu stories are in Japanese, and you do not need to sign in to Kakuyomu.

Read the EPUB on Android
EPUB is a convenient format for reading a story as an ebook. When the download finishes, find the file in your device’s downloads and open it with an EPUB reader.
Moon+ Reader and Google Play Books both work with EPUB files on Android.
Use Moon+ Reader
Install Moon+ Reader, then open the EPUB you downloaded from WP Downloader. The story is stored in a file on your device, so you can continue reading without returning to its Kakuyomu page.
Moon+ Reader also has a built-in text-to-speech mode. It can read the Japanese text aloud with the voices installed on your device. The installed voices determine how natural the reading sounds.
Use Google Play Books
Google Play Books accepts DRM-free EPUB and PDF files. You can upload the Kakuyomu book from the Play Books Android app and read it on your phone or tablet.
You can also use the Play Books website to upload the file from your computer or Google Drive. After uploading it, you can read the book through Play Books on the web, Android, and iPhone or iPad.
A very large story may reach Google’s upload size limit. If it does, open the EPUB directly in an Android EPUB reader.
Read the PDF on Android
You can upload a downloaded PDF to Google Play Books and read it on your Android device. WP Downloader requires a free Discord sign-in to create the PDF.
EPUB is a straightforward choice for an ebook-style reading experience. Choose PDF if you prefer that format.
WP Downloader does not create MOBI, AZW3, or TXT files.
Listen with Android text to speech
Several Android options can read a downloaded Kakuyomu story aloud:
- Moon+ Reader opens EPUB files and has a built-in text-to-speech mode.
- @Voice Aloud Reader reads EPUB files aloud.
- Android’s Select to Speak reads items on the screen. Turn it on in Settings under Accessibility, then tap an item to hear it.
All three use the text-to-speech voices installed on your device. The available Japanese voices and how natural they sound depend on your device’s voice settings.
Get newly published chapters
WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you already have. When the author publishes more chapters, return to the Kakuyomu Downloader, paste the story link again, and download a new copy of the whole story.
