Read a MediaMiner Story in KOReader
To read a MediaMiner story in KOReader, download the complete story as an EPUB with WP Downloader, copy the file to your device, and open it from KOReader’s file browser. The saved story is then available offline.
What you need
Have these ready:
- The MediaMiner story page in your browser
- A phone, tablet, or supported e-reader running KOReader
- A way to copy a file to the device, such as USB or Android file transfer
KOReader is a free, open-source document reader for Kobo, PocketBook, and Android devices. It also runs on Kindles that have been jailbroken. Installing KOReader on a Kobo or Kindle is a separate, unofficial process.
KOReader opens EPUB and PDF files. WP Downloader offers EPUB downloads free to everyone. Downloading a PDF requires a free Discord sign-in.
Step 1: Copy the MediaMiner story link
Open the story on mediaminer.org and copy its URL from your browser’s address bar. MediaMiner story links follow this general pattern:
https://www.mediaminer.org/fanfic/s/category-name/story-title/123456 Copy the main story URL. WP Downloader downloads whole MediaMiner stories, so it does not support individual chapters or story lists from this site.
You do not need to sign in to MediaMiner.
Step 2: Download the story with WP Downloader
Open the MediaMiner Downloader, then paste the story link into the box. WP Downloader detects that the link is from MediaMiner and prepares the complete story.
Choose EPUB to open the book in KOReader. You can also include the story’s images in the downloaded book.
WP Downloader is a free web tool, and you do not need to install anything. Its support for MediaMiner and the other fiction archives was ported from FanFicFare, the open-source fanfiction downloader licensed under Apache-2.0.
More detailed instructions are available in the MediaMiner download guide.
Step 3: Copy the EPUB to your device
When the download finishes, copy the EPUB to the device where you use KOReader.
Kobo or PocketBook
Connect the e-reader to your computer with USB. Copy the EPUB to the device as usual, then safely disconnect it.
This guide assumes that KOReader is already available on your Kobo. Installing it is a separate, unofficial process.
Android phone or tablet
Copy the EPUB to your Android device using your usual file-transfer method. If you connect the device to a computer, you can use Android file transfer.
Save the EPUB somewhere you can find from KOReader’s file browser.
Jailbroken Kindle
KOReader runs on Kindles that have been jailbroken. If you already have it installed, connect the Kindle over USB and copy the EPUB to it. Jailbreaking a Kindle and installing KOReader are unofficial processes that this guide does not cover.
For the usual Kindle reading workflow, see how to send a MediaMiner story to Kindle.
Step 4: Open the story in KOReader
Open KOReader and use its file browser to find the folder containing the EPUB. Select the file to start reading offline.
If you have a Kobo and do not want to use KOReader, follow the separate MediaMiner guide for Kobo.
Getting new chapters later
WP Downloader cannot add newly published chapters to an existing EPUB. When the MediaMiner story changes, paste its link into WP Downloader again and download a new copy.
Copy the new EPUB to your device, then open that version in KOReader.
