How to read a StoryRoom story in KOReader

To read a StoryRoom story in KOReader, download it as an EPUB with WP Downloader, copy the file to your device, and open it from KOReader’s file browser. KOReader supports EPUB directly, so you do not need to convert the file.

What you need

A link to the StoryRoom story
An account for the site hosting the story
WP Downloader in your web browser
KOReader on a supported device
A way to copy the EPUB to that device

KOReader is a free, open-source document reader for Kobo, PocketBook, and Android devices. It also runs on jailbroken Kindles. Installing KOReader on a Kobo or Kindle is a separate, unofficial process, so this guide assumes it is already installed.

Download the StoryRoom story with WP Downloader

WP Downloader is a free web tool with nothing to install. It supports stories from storyroom.com and finestories.com.

A StoryRoom link normally looks like this:

To download the story:

Open the StoryRoom Downloader.
Paste the story link into the box.
Sign in with an account for that story site when prompted.
Choose EPUB as the output format.
Choose whether to include the story’s images.
Download the finished EPUB.

WP Downloader uses your account credentials only to fetch the story you requested. It downloads content your account can already read and does not bypass locked chapters, paywalls, or age restrictions.

Support for StoryRoom was ported from FanFicFare, the open-source fanfiction downloader. WP Downloader downloads the whole story from this provider. Single chapters and StoryRoom lists are not supported.

Copy the EPUB to your device

Transfer the downloaded EPUB to the device where you use KOReader.

Kobo or PocketBook

Connect the device to your computer with USB and copy the EPUB onto it. Put the file somewhere you can find from KOReader’s file browser. You do not need to convert it to another ebook format.

Android phone or tablet

If you downloaded the EPUB on your Android device, keep it in a folder you can reach from KOReader. If the file is on a computer, copy it to the device with your usual Android file-transfer method.

Jailbroken Kindle

KOReader runs on Kindles that have been jailbroken. Copy the EPUB to the Kindle, then find it in KOReader’s file browser.

Open the StoryRoom EPUB in KOReader

After copying the file:

Launch KOReader on your device.
Open its file browser.
Browse to the folder containing the EPUB.
Select the file to start reading.

KOReader opens EPUB files directly. WP Downloader does not produce MOBI or AZW3 files.

WP Downloader can also download a StoryRoom story as a PDF. EPUB is free for everyone, while PDF requires a free Discord sign-in. KOReader supports both formats, but EPUB requires fewer steps for this process.

Get newer chapters

WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you already downloaded. When the author updates the story, return to the StoryRoom Downloader, paste the link again, and download a new copy.

Copy the new EPUB to your device and open it in KOReader. You can keep the old file, but select the newly downloaded copy to read the latest available chapters.
