Do JoyRead Stories Count for Apple Books Reading Goals?

Apple Books can open a JoyRead story downloaded as an EPUB or PDF. PDFs count toward Reading Goals when Include PDFs is turned on. Apple does not clearly document whether EPUB files you import yourself add to your daily reading time, so you will need to test the EPUB on your device.

Download a JoyRead story with WP Downloader

For JoyRead, WP Downloader saves the whole available story. It does not download individual chapters or reading lists. If the author adds more chapters later, download the story again. WP Downloader cannot update an EPUB you already have.

Add the story to Apple Books

Apple Books opens EPUB and PDF files on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. After you import the file, the story appears in your Library.

On iPhone or iPad

1. Find the downloaded EPUB or PDF in the Files app or Safari’s downloads.
2. Open the Share menu.
3. Choose Books.
4. When Apple Books opens, find the story in your Library.

On Mac

Open the Books app and drag the EPUB into it. You can also choose File, then Add to Library, and select the downloaded file.

Open the story from your Library when you are ready to read.

How Apple Books Reading Goals work

Apple Books tracks:

• How many minutes you read each day. The default daily goal is five minutes.
• How many books and audiobooks you finish each year.

To change the daily goal, open the Reading Now tab on an iPhone or iPad. On a Mac, open Home.

Apple does not say whether EPUB files you import yourself count toward daily reading time. Since a JoyRead EPUB from WP Downloader is an imported file, check how Apple Books handles it on your device.

Check whether your JoyRead EPUB counts

After importing the story:

1. Check today’s reading time in Apple Books.
2. Note the number of minutes shown.
3. Open the imported JoyRead EPUB.
4. Read for a minute or two.
5. Return to the Reading Goal and check whether the total increased.

If the total rises, Apple Books is tracking that EPUB on your device. If it stays the same, make sure you have read for a full minute or two before checking again.

Count a JoyRead PDF toward your goal

Apple Books counts time spent reading PDFs only when Include PDFs is turned on.

On current iOS versions, open Settings, Apps, and Books, then enable Include PDFs. On older versions, open Settings and Books, then enable Include PDFs.

Once the setting is on, open the imported JoyRead PDF and read for a minute or two. Check today’s reading time afterward to make sure it increased.

EPUB has a typical ebook layout, while PDF uses fixed pages. WP Downloader provides both formats, so you can choose the one you prefer.
