How to put a stck.me story on Kindle with calibre
You can copy a stck.me story to a Kindle without Amazon’s Send to Kindle service. First download the story as an EPUB with WP Downloader. You can then use calibre to convert it to AZW3 and transfer it to your Kindle over USB.
What you need
You will need:
- The stck.me story link
- A stck.me account with access to the chapters you want
- A computer running Windows, macOS, or Linux
- calibre, a free e-book manager
- A Kindle e-reader and a USB connection
A stck.me story URL normally looks like this:
https://author.stck.me/story/123/title Each author has their own stck.me site. WP Downloader recognizes the provider from the story link.
Step 1: Download the story as an EPUB
Open the stck.me downloader in WP Downloader. The downloader is a free web tool, so you do not need to install anything.
- Copy the story URL.
- Paste it into WP Downloader.
- Sign in with your stck.me account.
- Choose whether to include the story’s images.
- Download the EPUB.
EPUB downloads are free for everyone. PDF is also available with a free Discord sign-in, but EPUB is the useful format here because calibre can convert it to AZW3.
WP Downloader can only fetch chapters that your stck.me account can already read. It never buys chapters, follows authors, bypasses paywalls, or unlocks restricted content. Paid or follower-only chapters that your account cannot access stay locked and appear as notices in the downloaded book.
See the stck.me story download guide for more help with the download.
Step 2: Add the EPUB to calibre
Open calibre and select Add books, then choose the EPUB you downloaded. The story will appear in your calibre library.
You can edit its metadata or cover before transferring it, although this is optional. calibre can convert the EPUB without any changes.
You can also open the story in calibre’s e-book viewer to check it on your computer. The viewer includes a Read aloud feature.
Step 3: Convert the EPUB to AZW3
Select the story in your calibre library and choose the option to convert it. Set AZW3 as the output format.
AZW3 is a Kindle format that you can copy to the device over USB. calibre can also convert EPUB files to MOBI or PDF, though this guide uses AZW3.
WP Downloader does not create AZW3 or MOBI files. It provides the EPUB, and calibre converts it for the Kindle.
Step 4: Send the story to your Kindle
Connect your Kindle e-reader to the computer over USB. When calibre detects it, select the converted story and use Send to device.
calibre will copy the book to the Kindle for offline reading. The file travels directly from your computer to the e-reader, so this method does not use Amazon’s Send to Kindle service.
Why use calibre?
calibre can convert the EPUB to AZW3 and copy it directly to your Kindle. It also keeps the original EPUB in your local library, where you can read it, edit its metadata or cover, and convert it again later.
Kindles still open MOBI and AZW3 files copied over USB. Amazon stopped accepting MOBI through its Send to Kindle service, but MOBI files can still be transferred directly to a Kindle. This guide uses AZW3.
To use Amazon’s service instead, follow the guide to send stck.me stories to Kindle. For another e-reader, see the guide to reading stck.me stories on Kobo.
Update a story when new chapters appear
WP Downloader cannot add new chapters to an EPUB you already downloaded. Return to the stck.me downloader and download the story again to get the latest chapters available to your account.
Add the new EPUB to calibre, convert it to AZW3, and send that version to your Kindle over USB.
