How to Read JoyRead Stories on a Barnes & Noble NOOK

To read a JoyRead story on a Barnes & Noble NOOK, download it as an EPUB with WP Downloader and copy the file to your NOOK over USB. Barnes & Noble calls this “sideloading.” WP Downloader is a free web tool, so you do not need to install anything.

Download a JoyRead story as an EPUB

Copy the address of the story from joyread.com. A JoyRead story link looks like this:

Then:

1. Open the JoyRead downloader.
2. Paste the story link into the box.
3. Choose EPUB as the output format.
4. Choose whether to include the story’s images.
5. Download the finished EPUB to your computer.

Choose EPUB because the NOOK accepts EPUB files. WP Downloader can also create a PDF after a free Discord sign-in. It does not create MOBI, AZW3, or TXT files.

WP Downloader downloads the whole JoyRead story. It cannot download individual chapters or lists. If the author adds chapters later, download the story again to create a new EPUB. The tool cannot update a file you previously downloaded.

Locked JoyRead chapters

You can download publicly available JoyRead stories without signing in. Signing in with your JoyRead account is optional and lets WP Downloader fetch members-only material that your account can read.

WP Downloader only downloads content already available to your account. It cannot bypass paid chapters, locked chapters, paywalls, or other access restrictions. Paid or locked chapters are included only if your account can read them.

Your account credentials are used only to fetch the story you requested.

Transfer the EPUB to a NOOK GlowLight

Save the EPUB to your computer, then connect your NOOK GlowLight with a USB cable.

The NOOK appears on the computer as a drive named “NOOK.” Open the drive and drag the downloaded EPUB onto it. Wait for the copy to finish.

This process is called sideloading because you are copying your own ebook file directly to the NOOK.

Transfer the EPUB to a newer NOOK

On newer NOOK models, change the USB setting before transferring the EPUB:

1. Connect the NOOK to your computer.
2. Swipe down from the top of the NOOK screen.
3. Tap “USB for charging.”
4. Choose “Transfer files (MTP).”
5. Open the NOOK on your computer.
6. Drag the JoyRead EPUB onto the device.
7. Wait for the transfer to finish.

Eject the NOOK from your computer before unplugging the USB cable.

Read the story offline

Once the EPUB is on your NOOK, you can read the JoyRead story without returning to the website. Keep the original EPUB on your computer if you want a backup.

When the story gets new chapters, download it again with WP Downloader and transfer the new EPUB to your NOOK.
