How to Track JoyRead Stories on Goodreads and The StoryGraph

You can track a JoyRead story on Goodreads or The StoryGraph even if it is not listed there yet. Download the story as an EPUB with WP Downloader, then search your preferred service for its title and author. If you cannot find it, you can add it to Goodreads if your account is eligible or keep a personal reading list in calibre.

Download the JoyRead story

WP Downloader is a free web tool that works in a phone or computer browser. You do not need to install anything.

1. Open the JoyRead downloader.
2. Copy the story URL from your browser. It should look like this:

3. Paste the URL into WP Downloader.
4. Choose whether to include the story’s images.
5. Download the story as an EPUB.

EPUB downloads are free for everyone. You can also download a PDF after signing in with a free Discord account.

For JoyRead, WP Downloader downloads the entire story. It does not download individual chapters or reading lists. If the author publishes more chapters, download the story again to get a newer copy. WP Downloader cannot update an EPUB you already have.

You can sign in with your JoyRead account to reach members-only material your account is allowed to read. WP Downloader includes paid or locked chapters only if your account can already access them, and it uses your credentials only to fetch the story you requested. It does not bypass paywalls, locked chapters, age restrictions, or other access limits.

Support for JoyRead was ported from FanFicFare, the open-source fanfiction downloader licensed under Apache-2.0.

Search Goodreads for the story

Search Goodreads for the story title and author before adding a new entry. Most fanfiction and web serials are not in its database, but another reader may already have added the story.

If you find the correct work, use that entry to track your reading and avoid creating a duplicate.

Add a missing JoyRead story to Goodreads

Eligible Goodreads accounts can add a book at goodreads.com/book/new. Your account must have a verified email address and cannot be brand new.

You need at least:

• The story title
• The author’s name

Copy these details from the JoyRead story page and check the spelling before submitting them, especially if your search found similar titles or author names.

Goodreads librarians handle later edits and merge duplicate entries. If the story is already listed under a slightly different title, use that record instead of adding another one.

The Goodreads record and your downloaded EPUB are separate. The record tracks your reading on Goodreads, while the EPUB is your offline copy.

Track the story on The StoryGraph

Search The StoryGraph for the story title and author. The story may be missing from its database, especially if it is a web serial rather than a published book.

The StoryGraph does not provide clear official instructions for adding works that are not books. If you cannot find the story, check its current help pages for guidance. Do not assume the Goodreads process works there.

You can use calibre instead if The StoryGraph cannot accommodate the story.

Keep a reading list in calibre

calibre is a free e-book manager for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It gives you a personal library for stories that are missing from Goodreads or The StoryGraph.

After downloading the JoyRead EPUB:

1. Open calibre on your computer.
2. Select Add books and choose the EPUB.
3. Edit the title, author, cover, or other metadata if needed.
4. Read the story in calibre’s e-book viewer or send it to a connected e-reader over USB.

The e-book viewer also has a Read aloud feature.

calibre can convert an EPUB to formats such as AZW3, MOBI, or PDF. WP Downloader itself does not create AZW3, MOBI, or TXT files.

Can WP Downloader add a JoyRead story to Goodreads?

No. WP Downloader creates an EPUB or PDF for offline reading. You track the story separately on Goodreads, The StoryGraph, or in calibre.

What if the JoyRead story is not on Goodreads?

Can I import the JoyRead EPUB into calibre?
